Why do the worst chefs always have the most 'signature dishes'?
For example, my father is a shitty cook but has about 10 'signature dishes' that he loves to make. For example

>Pink and White? Meatball Delight!
Which is undercooked ('rare') pork meatballs with boiled eggs, usually he adds a mayo with red food coloring as sauce

>Cinnamon Toast Lunch
He prepares 'lunchtime sandwiches' which are HEAVILY cinnamon covered, HEAVILY buttered slices of toast with cereal in the middle

>Peppa Pig is Hot!
Stuffed Peppers, stuffed with nothing but a mix of rice and hot sauce and scotch bonnet peppers. This started as a joke when he found Peppa Pig porn on my laptop but he thinks it is tasty

The thing is he can't cook at all so I know he is compensating and I think this is true for most cooks like him. Do you know anyone like this?

"Signature dishes" is a term used either for chefs who have made a name for themselves making something specific, or as an ego trip by people who cook and want attention.

SOLUTION: Have you dad watch "Good Eats". Alton Brown explains the science and craft of cooking, and is possibly the best cooking show ever. He got me into it.

And tell your dad to bake the Mac & Cheese for fifteen minutes with bread crumbs on top. No fucking sugar

I went thru a phase like this when, through practice and research was able to perfect Alfredo sauce and bake cookies to spec. Then one day I realized it wasn't anything spectacular, or even cooking 101. It was more like remedial summer school to qualify you to take 100 level classes. Fuggit I was happy and got me in the road to cooking.

Your dad doesn't sound half bad. Hopefully he doesn't cost on this forever.
