Love them smoked or steamed with black bean sauce, but they are rich as hell. Not an everyday food.

A good sized eel may be up to twenty years old.. they grow really slowly.

Should be a luxury to be honest.

Because of overfishing, demand and the world being rotten. Japan is just about the only society with citizens who respect the law enough to limit wild catch. Everywhere else it's a losing battle.

I've seen clips of all kinds of animal slaughter but watching Gordon Ramsay attempting to hold a slippery eel still to slice its head off then watching its severed head gasping for breath is just horrific

Eels, octopus, and bacalao are my favorite fish to cook with, with shark and swordfish as honorable mentions.

>mfw braised octopus with chickpeas and tomato
>the velveteen texture and unique salinity of bacalao, smothered with a rich sauce of tomatoes, garlic and onion and golden medallions of fried potatoes heaped alongside
>meatiness of charred eel with a rich tare sauce on a bed of hot fluffy rice

fucking god tier

Freshwater eels occur naturally in Minnesota. Start fishing.

>> No.7470907

>>7470863

my dad caught one on lake of the woods by accident, but im sure you can only catch them where theres eventual river access to the ocean and then i assume theyre seasonal as well

>> No.7470918

>>7470907

There exist both freshwater and saltwater eels bro. The freshwater ones (which IMHO are the tastiest) don't require any access to the ocean.

>>Seasonal
you can catch them year-round. they don't just magically disappear from the lake one month and then re-appear a few months later.

also, eels literally eat garbage so they're one of the easiest fish to catch.
