sherlock holmes have a really "autistic" socially awkward way that is far more common in men and wouldn't fit good in a woman, and james bond, a guy that carries all masculine traits, he is womanizer, loner, tuff, i just can't see a women playing it without changing everything about the character.

The stereotype that english food is bland is also retarded. They used spices like nutmeg more extensively than the rest of europe beginning in the 16th century, English mustard is really strong, and they introduced curry to europe. The main reason I think is they lacked a real availability of ingredients other warmer climates could produce for longer. Of course they could import, but that made those ingredients luxury goods well into the 19th century.

But now that this stuff is much more readily available, british cooks are coming into their own. They have like 180 michelin stars rn

Also, WW2 really fucked up our food culture; we had like a good 4+ years there where everything was rationed and only bland foods were widely available, and even then, rationing continued on long after the war finished.

Basically everything since then has been a period of recovery.

Britain made most of its wealth from agriculture up until the latter half of the 19th century and drove global agricultural improvements from the 17th onwards.

The reason why people think British food is bad goes back to rationing in the Second World War; this is when you had a generation raised up with nothing to eat and very simple staple and were given bad habits which carried on into the 50s, 60s and 70s. You also had a ton of Americans in the country at the same time. In addition this has to be seen in the context of the hate or disdain Americans have for Britain which has grown in the post war period as it gained the upper hand over Britain and destroyed it as a global power and that idea solidified that Britain had bad food. Globalisation and internationalism have also had an impact on attacking the idea of British cuisine.

In reality there's plenty of places around the globe where the comments given about British food would better apply. In reality there's a very rich heritage of agriculture and good food, mostly revolving around roasted and fried meats and fish, stews, pies, cheeses and savoury puddings as well as beers with amazing geographical variation in diet and dishes that existed before the middle of the 20th century cocked things up.

As for jellied eels, literally only eaten in a small geographical area made out of cheap protein and fat to provide food for urban poor. Jellied eels are also eaten across Europe and are not a solely British thing. French, Italians, etc also eat it and in fact it's far more popular in those countries then it is in the UK where it only really saw mass popularity in pre-war London.

It goes back way before that. I recently bought and read Mrs. Beeton's, which is a British cookbook published in the 1860's--several decades before WWI, let alone WWII. It discusses the poor reputation of British food at that time.

Sure, WWII didn't help things (the same way it fucked over a lot of the cooking in the US as well). But the reputation for bad food existed long before WWII.

kidding aside (since you seem to be unable to be lighthearted) british curry isn't like indian curry, don't be silly. Good old Gordo went to India and said the same himself

Regardless of the reason, the point is that the reputation was not created by WWII rationing, it existed well before then.

Let me make this clear.

If you asked British people what a Stargazer pie was, 9/10 wouldn't have a clue.

Even if you showed it to them, most would recoil or find it amusing.

I don't know where the Stargazer pie meme came from, but it's a crock of shit.

British regional food is fine, it's just that internationally everyone just thinks they eat potatoes and Full English breakfasts.

Every other county has a traditional sausage variety, some still exist after the county has been absorbed into another, like Westmorland sausage.

Cornish Pasties are now protected and regulated under EU law.

Scottish salmon has seen exports to Asia go through the roof over the last two years.

They export the a majority of their sea food to the Continent.

They're not afraid to eat offal either, and they still have a decent game scene going on, with demand for fresh game is on the rise even after all the effort by animal rights activists.
