How do you let a steak rest? Inside tinfoil?

No that would steam it and be overcooked.

On a cutting board usually.

On a pillow. I read it a chapter of harry potter and it's usually relaxed enough to slice.

I rest it on either a cloth towel, a paper towel, or a wire grid in that order of preference.

Haven't you ever seen a cooking show? Not even one?
You loosely "tent" the meat with foil. On a plate or cutting board.
"Tent" means the foil covers the meat to trap most of the heat, but allowing enough unsealed space around the perimeter to let water vapor escape. You don't want condensation and drip-back to ruin your crispy crust, but you want to retain the heat so the juices can redistribute. Basically, the outside of the meat is higher than ideal temp, and the inside is lower... the rest time allows things to reach equilibrium without getting cold or sogging out.

Dunno, on a couch maybe? I don't rest my steak, there is no juice running out. Never. Seriously, I think the whole resting thing is a meme invented by restaurant cooks. "Waiter, I ordered my steak blue rare ten minutes ago, where is it"- "It needs to rest, Sir."

I have a special steak hammock tied to my grill.

You have to put it in a strainer and run cold tap water over it untill room temperature is achieved.

If you prepare an ice bath, its even better.
