I want to make split pea soup with chicken for a family meal tomorrow night and I'm asking for tips for making a great split pea soup. I'll be doing it in a slow cooker with dried peas and chicken breast, chicken broth, carrots, sweet potato, onion, celery, and cabbage.

What would you do with it?

Also, what should I serve with it? Crusty bread? Any unique alternatives to bread come to mind? How do you round out soup for a meal?

Thanks, /ck/.

Split pea chicken lol wtf. Its ham and pea soup. The saltyness and ham fat change the pea goop into something edible.

For real? I doubt chicken will make it a bad dish, just a different one.

What to serve with it though?

You dont need a slow cooker, just a dutch oven on low and keep stirring it.

Depends what you're serving.
If you're OP and doing that soup thing, a simple baking powder biscuit (get out britbongs) would be better than bread rolls.
If you mean you want something that isn't just baked dough, try potato cakes. It'd go really well with the soup too.

When you sweat the veg, add in some diced bacon.
It'll replace the ham & chicken & bacon are the very best of friends

>slow cooked chicken breast
y tho

It's gonna be kinda dry and stringy

At least use chicken thighs man. Ideally, use ham.

Also, why cabbage?

>shallow fry in oil

It's really very simple and you can improvise pretty easily.

Just put the pulled pork in the slow cooker for overnight. Gonna keep some of the juices and make collard greens tomorrow. Feels good, senpai
