They used to sell them for $.99 when quarter pounders (Royale with cheese to you?) Were $2.50. Same buns and Patty, just did toppings.

Used to tell my friends to order them and just choose whatever toppings they want for a cheap burger.

We used to call them Big'N'Nasties tho.

7039571 here. Heck if I know. Their menu changes often--there's always new items showing up and others being discontinued, and it's not as if McDonalds tells the public "why". I would assume they discontinued it because it didn't sell as well as they would have liked. There's a limited amount of space for items on the menu so I would imagine that they strive to replace the low-selling items with items that sell better.
