I consider a "chickenburger" to be ground chicken shaped into a "burger patty".
That's a chicken sandwich because it's breaded.
if it was just a hunk of solid meat, like from a chicken breast, it would be a chicken sandwich as well, and I don't know why.

in canada, it can get pretty confusing, I call ground up and fried chicken meat a chicken patty to avoid confusion, a chicken burger here can either be a piece of chicken battered and fried, or steamed chicken on a bun, a specialty of eastern canada. actually surprisingly flavorful
