What are your favorite crock-pot dishes?
Any tips?

I have a pork shoulder in currently, with some rub and 2 cups of liquid

>> No.7006679

I use mine for beans. Meat deserves better than to go into one of those.

>> No.7006715

Make maranara sauce.

Put 3 cleaned chicken breasts uncooked, on the bottom.

Add sauce until covering chickens.

Slice up some dank mozzy cheese on top.

Set to high, 3 hours.

Enjoy like a sub, the chicken falls apart and is so delish

>What are your favorite crock-pot dishes?

Nothing specific.

>Any tips?

Throw in some dark meat (poultry) or beef with potatoes, any other vegetables you like, and whatever spices sound good to you and you can't go wrong. Turkey legs, thighs, and wings are especially good.

Pork tacos

Take pork shoulder, whole diced onion, some chilies, few cloves of garlic, some vinegar, salt, cumin, oregano and cook it on low 8-10 hours.

A small amount of water (less than a cup) to get some vapor going, but there will eventually be more fat than water.

The most basic thing

>Quarter 2 red onions, throw in stockpot
>Place whole chicken on top, include the gizzards and heart, freeze the neck for crabbing and keep the liver aside to sautee.
>Low, 10 hours
>Spend 20 minutes separating the shredded meat from the bones
>Freeze liquid to use as stock (strain it first obviously)
>Freeze bones to make even more stock (I used the bones of three whole chickens in an 18 ounce pot, plus other random ass veggies)
>Freeze whatever shredded chicken you aren't going to eat right away, keep onions distributed evenly
>Wa-la

No, you don't need to add liquids to this, a whole ass chicken produces a lot of its own.

As for spices, really up to you. My fiancee is middle eastern, so we usually like to use a lot of those spices, some might prefer a cajun mix and if you're a poor college fag even that premade shit will work. You can use the chicken for sandwiches, eat it plain, I don't care, fact is you get some decent shit out of it. I just like it on toast with guacamole (fuck you, it is good).

Have that exact type of crockpot. Works pretty well.

You can generally toss any type of meat in there with some other stuff, and it will come out tender after half a day.

I don't use mine a lot since I got a dutch oven. Best thing to do is buy cheap cuts of pork like country style ribs and dump a bottle of BBQ sauce on them and go to work. Come home and eat your pork.

>> No.7012543

I use my crockpot to make bread in. Otherwise I use it for either stewing beef or pork in a sauce of some kind. Pork usually ends up being pulled pork and beef usually ends up as a goulash or stew.

I love making baked beans in a crock pot. I usually soak navy beans for 2-3 days and let them roast with some molasses, brown sugar, salty bacon with the rind still on and a few other things.

No but that really sounds good. I recently bought an outdoor wood fueled stove and I've found that anything I cook in there gets a really smokey taste. I think I'll fire up a turkey in there and then add it to a batch of beans.

I really like making carnitas.

>pork shoulder
>add a rub
>put in slow cooker
>add beer and fresh orange juice till covered
>bay leafs, some cloves or garlic, onion if you want
>just let if go on low for 6+ hours or until almost falling apart
>take out
>cut into chunks
>broil in oven real quick till outsides are crispy

So damn good. My uncle used to do it this way outside in a giant pot, then he'd roast them real quick over the fire.

I also like making roast, chicken caldo, rips, turkey legs, and beans.

I make barbecued shredded chicken
- 3-6 chicken breasts
- bbq sauce, the low quality kind
- 1 capful of liquid smoke
- heaping tablespoon of brown sugar
While you're prepping, put the crock pot on high with the bottom covered in water just to heat it up.
When it's all loaded in, drop the heat down to low for 4 hours or so (fork test to make sure).
Shred the breasts & put into tupperware. Get the GOOD BBQ sauce and pour that directly onto the shredded Chicken. Pour out the remnant liquid to save your arteries from the chicken grease. Enjoy!

I tried the Spicy Dr. Pepper shredded pork a while ago. Came out great.
Made a beef stew a few days ago. Came out great, tasted even better after 2 days in the fridge. Ate it with slow cooked mashed potatoes I made about a week ago.

Just remember that there is no loss of liquid in a crockpot, so what you put in is what you get out.
A lot of people think "oh, it'll reduce while it cooks" but that isn't true with crockpots.

Well, I've gone and got a crock pot since its going to be too cold to BBQ soon here in NY
It came with a mini crock and the recipe book, which I'll be making use of tomorrow.
Do you guys have any simple recipes for chicken breasts or beef eye rounds I can put on before I go to bed tonight?

Slow cooking chicken breast is pointless and always comes out dry. What you wanna slow cook is thighs, legs, and wings.

Made this last night. Had some shit laying around.

4 chicken thighs, sweet potato, green pepper, kidney and black beans, diced tomato, minced garlic, and frozen spinach. Threw some chicken stock and chilli seasoning on there. Cooked for 6 hours.

Been eating it over white rice. Pretty good considering it was just shit I had around and had no plan to make it. Love it when meals come together like that.
