My mom used to grill big ass pieces of halibut and bring it out to the table in its resting dish with a pat of lemon and parsley butter on top of it. We weren't allowed to dig in until the butter had finished melting and mixing with the halibut juices in the bottom of the dish. Shit was cash when we finally got to eat it tho.

My grandad is grumpy and my grandmother is the stereotype of the happy grandmother who wants to feed everybody. When it's finally christmas time, she drinks, get drunk and she is really mean with my grandad. It gets really awkward and really heavy, since everyone pretend that we have fun since it's christmas. When the meal is served, my grandmother and grandfather don't stop arguing.

We tried to make her stop drinking, but she doesn't realize what it's causing. She acts like she's not drinking and stuff.

But yeah, she used to make amazing yet simple dishes
>"pizza dans un plat", which was like a pizza, replacing the pasta by macaronis (I was maybe 8 years old when she was doing that)

>Her own caramel that she would put in the freezer, heat in a microwave and serve with vanilla ice cream. Shit was cash

She stopped doing these things since my uncles are making the bucks and she wants to impress them.

Uh bro... my parents actually decided to feed us kids the same food they ate. None of that "We get steak while the kids get hotdogs and cheesy mac" mostly because they didnt want to cook more things. If it was roast and potatoes for dinner, we ate roast and potatoes. If it was porkchops and roasted potatoes and carrots then guess what everyone ate. And when it was mac n cheese with bits of hotdog in it, we ALL ate mac n cheese with bits of hotdog because that shit is delicious!

Decent food (enough to feed some 5-12 year olds) doesnt cost much more than cheap shit at least in the 80s and 90s. Sack of potatoes, and a bit of meat, toss in a few other veggies for color.

If I bugged my mum for food a lot of times she'd make a grilled cheese using olive oil rather than butter, but it was still pretty good.

Otherwise I ate what they ate, a lot of plain steamed veggies, pasta with store-bought tomato sauce, and porkchops to the point I got kind of sick of it. But it motivated me to cook for myself.
