Man, I tried In & Out several times. First in Lake Havasu, then somewhere in Nevada, then somewhere in LA. It was mediocre at best every time. Greasy, sloppy, stomach ache-inducing. 80% lean ground beef is $2.99/lb.
8 pack of buns is $1.
4 quarter pound patties on 4 buns is $2.99 + 50¢ = $3.49.

If you wanna be a real stickler about it, let's say three, quarter-pound burgers for $3.50. That's $2.25 for the meat and 38¢ for the buns, that way, you've got 87¢ for cheese and condiments and lettuce and shit for your three burgers.
That's why it's not worth it.

There is a better burger out there, but it's more expensive.

At Bill and Hiroko's burger in Van Nuys. It's basically exactly hte same thing... made exactly the same way (mustard swab and all)... but on a 49 year old gaspowered flat top grill that's had nothing but delicious burgers on it for 49 years straight.

Bill told me he makes the same burgers at home but they just don't taste the same without that grill.

There was a local Wendy's near my highschool in my youth and I used to always order 2 junior bacon cheeseburgers everyday after school.

Now I feel like shit after eating a burger from Wendy's or McDonalds.

mcdonalds is a huge rip off, so is the habit, in terms of grocery store vs not grocery store. the habit is a good value in terms of eating out, but if you don't have money to spare you have to be a moron not to spend it on groceries. even if you do spend money on meat, buy pork shoulder or chicken thighs for 1-2 dollars a lb, slow cook the shit out of it, now you have shredded meat, put it in anything from sandwiches to tacos and apply vegetables like onions liberally. throw in a starch and you have cheap easy as fuck food that will have you eating better and tastier than any fucking "Fast food". you want fast food? get fat ass off of couch, go get out frozen bag of premade shredded meat, nuke it till semi hot. put it on what you want to eat, add the vegetables and condiments, and you have hot delicious fucking food.

soup is even easier if you don't mind compromising speed.
