Try it man, it's really delicious.
The sourness of the plum goes really well with the softness and slight sweetness of the dough.

Germans, Swiss, and Austrians monopolized the "cakes" industry. Germanic people= know a lot about cakes.

>OP wouldn't know good food if it bit him in the ass

Zwetschgendatschi (southern German) == Pflaumenkuchen (ahem, real German) == plum cake is typically sold at bakeries when plums are in season at a relatively cheap price and is pretty damn tasty for what it is.
Relatively cheap? Well uh, compared to the hefty prices bakeries demand for things OP would consider 'real' cake like Black Forest or Sacher tart but that poorfag never had these anyway..

tldr; OP is a faggot

I really wish we had these sort of things in the states. I mean we might but not where I come from.
Desserts here tend to be overly sweet/have a fucking ton of icing on it. Not my thing at all.

In America, cake is just baked sweetened dough. What defines a European cake?

First things first:
>cake
>dessert

Another thing is that what English calls 'cake' is actually two things in German. Kuchen and Torte.

A Kuchen is something rather simple with maybe covered or filled some fruit or nuts or something like that. It's never frosted. It's something you have for coffee.

A Torte is the heavier variant with several layers and frosting and all that stuff. That's what Anglos might think of when they say cake.

Pic related probably blows pretty much all of those shitty sponge + icing abominations Americans love so much out of the water. And don't even get me started on Austrian bakery.
