There's absolutely nothing that makes a single malt BETTER than a blended when speaking of terms of flavor and complexity. Equal amounts of art and craft can go into making both. However, when you factor in price and value, single malts are a better choice and I think that's what >>6939123 is getting at.

Most people who drink and enjoy scotch and own multiple bottles of scotch will typically be spending most of their money on single malts.

But honestly, they are two completely different products and are bought for different reasons. You're not going to make a scotch and soda with Lagavulin 16.

You probably won't like scotch.
Try starting out with some unpeated single malts like Auchentoshan classic or Glengoyne 10, then upgrade to some gently peated ones like Dalwhinnie and Bunnahabhain.

>> No.6945020

>pastis

I never understood why this is so expensive in the US.

I lived in France for awhile, and traveled throughout most of Europe, and while I tried dozens of aperitifs I'd never seen here (mostly French and Italian), pastis was so popular in France that it made no sense that it never caught on in the States.

Any decent liquor store will have multiple options for ouzo and sambuca, which are all pretty cheap, but then look for pastis and it's 3 times the price it is in France, and the only option is usually just Ricard (same thing with cornichons, actually).

This was true even before the retarded absinthe revival happened here (every American absinthe I've tried is pretty terrible, but they get away with selling it for a ridiculous amount).

I just want to sit outside on a nice afternoon and enjoy a pastis without paying more than I would for a single-malt I'd put on the shelf for special occasions.

There are articles about this that always say boxed wine is the best bang for your buck, but if getting drunk quickly is an issue (which it should be for anyone asking that question) pic related, or the equivalent is the best answer.

I was gifted a bottle last Christmas, and as desperate as I get sometimes (when I forget or am too lazy to make a liquor run), I'll drink all kinds of nasty liquors and shit before being able to get drunk off of it.

It's not terrible, but as someone who likes bitters I can't drink more than 3-4 ounces in a night if I'm not already pretty hammered.

mccormicks vodka straight from the plastic bottle. I am not ashamed either.

Whats the point in drinking at a bar? I'm not a social person, I used to only go to bars to maybe bring home a girl. 19/20 times it didn't work but when you're a chronic alcoholic those odds aren't bad. Honestly I ran out of money, motivation, and got tired of having to deal with people.

I used to post in these threads a lot more, simply because I drink every night, and when drunk I post more... but when some assholes decided to make non-stop, "/alc/ generals", because everything needs to be a fucking general now for absolutely no reason, I pretty much stopped.

It attracted much more of what I feel like is /r9k/ type shit like, >>6944099 and less actual alcohol discussion.

While I agree with what you say, you shouldn't sound like such a FUCKING FAGGOT when you say it. Only girls talk like that, "daww (: look at me being condescending it's like i'm really back in high school"
