I agree with everything you said the only problem with the multiple Five Guys I've been to most of them never cook the fries long enough and are soggy and limp like my dick. When done right they are definitely the best though.

There's two:

Sam's, which is a local walk up hamburger stand, has the most perfect, golden, crispy, fluffy inside, perfectly salty crinkle cut fries ever made. I go there for the fries, the burgers are just a bonus.

The other is Colorado Grill. They have the best steak fries I've ever had. They are perfection.

Actually we make some pretty awesome french fries at home. They take a nice big griddle, but are pretty damn easy to make.
- Clean and cut large Russet Potatoes into wedges
- Bring a large pot of salted water to boil.
- Add Potato Wedges
- Cook until they just begin turning soft. Do not overcook them.
- Drain potato wedges and pat dry with paper towels.
- Salt, Pepper, and lightly oil (Canola or Vegetable Oil) both sides of the wedges.
- With griddle on medium-high heat add the wedges and cook until brown and crispy on both sides.

I enjoy all the ones that I listed though (I'm not terribly picky).

I find most diner fries and dry and bland though, and I generally just order onion rings if the option is available to me.

If you want an awesome treat with these try this:
- Grill up some steak strips marinated with lime juice, cilantro, and jalepeno.
- Chop up tomatoes and avocados, sprinkle with lime juice and cilantro.
- Take sour cream and add a little bit of chipotle w/ adobo chopped up real fine.
- Layer your potato wedge fries on the bottom, then add your marinated steak strips, shredded cheddar cheese, tomato avocado salsa, chipotle sour cream, cilantro for garnish.

I work at an Applebees. We really dont get any free food but they always have a big ass bowl of fries sitting in the heat window so everyone snacks on them every once in a while.

I should be sick of them, but I'm not. They're unfortunately godlike fries and they alone have probably caused me to gain several pounds.

Too bad applebees fry portions are shit unless you have a cool server like me who gives you a decent fucking handful and not the pussy little wimp grab you're trained to do
