when i was a kid my stepdad wouldn't give me much food and i'd be severely beaten for stealing any food out of the pantry or fridge. so sometimes he'd buy a six pack of klondike bars in the winter and we'd do the klondike challenge.

its true. once i ran away from home because he caught me taking some cereal (just enough that he wouldn't notice) out of a box of cereal and putting it in a bag to hide in my room and eat, and he came through the door, and told me that he didn't know what he was going to do when he got back, but that it would come in stages over several days, because if he did it all at once i wouldn't be able to go to school for a while. so i ran away from home for like 3 days before the cops found me walking south.

i didn't say anything, i was too scared to.

i just suffered through it until i was 22 and had saved enough money to simply walk away from home. i got a backpack and started walking and wandered the USA for a while, before my biological fathers side of the family in texas found me on the internet and invited me to come live with them. now i work at a factory and have nice things and am going to college.

you wouldn't believe how very, very valuable a family that helps you out is. i mean, you might not think its much, but a father that teaches you to drive, takes you to the DMV, gives you a ride to work, doesn't take all your money, has heating in the house, lets you shower, allows you to use the washer/dryer (if a working washer/dryer is even present)...

appreciate your family and the value they offer you... while living in syracuse, i had to walk to work 2 miles at 11pm every night to get to the bakery and back to work, and my stepfather took half my money for rent for living in the house, and didn't even have heating, wasn't allowed to use the stove or microwave or fridge or use their food, wasn't allowed to shower before 5pm, had to carry my clothes in a bag 3 miles down to a laundromat to wash them. so i could never afford a car, and how to learn to drive it anyways without someone to show me and be there? and how to get to the dmv several times to do everything? eventually he sold me a broken car for a 1000 bucks that i was never able to drive.

now, living with my texas family, my fucking grandparents drive me to work at the factory every day so i can make money and save for college this spring, and they come back between 11pm and 3am to pick me up without complaining. now, my grandma just GAVE me a 1000 bucks to get a little used econo-box car, and my granmpa taught me how to drive so i can take a road test as soon as i get it this weekend and my grandparents won't have to be up at night. they don't charge me rent and feed me.
