is Cointreau worth the price tag instead of using generic triple sec

>> No.6859256

>>6859243

Cointreau is the best triple sec on the market, with a price tag that reflects that. Generic triple sec is essentially alcohol flavored with sugar and orange coolant packets. What is the cocktail? Is it just to stock your home bar?

Lmao. Just buy the cheapest triple sec.

Heck, might as well use orange cordial.

Cointreau or grand mariner then, 03 or gran gala if you want less cost buy it hurts quality. Dekuyper and the like are for scrubs with no pallette and to save high volume bars money. If you said cosmo this would have be a problem.

I guess it depends on the price.

Right now you can get Cointreau for £11/50cl or Tesco own-brand for £9/50cl. In which case probably worth buying the cointreau.

But most cocktails with triple sec combine many flavours, so if you're using it for cocktails and Cointreau is a lot more expensive then it doesn't seem worth it

>> No.6860624

The quality does matter but if you're just stacking fruity shit in a drink then cheap should be fine.
If you're making nice cocktails then get cointreau or gran Marnier

>>6859243
It is a shit ton better than plain ass triple sec. You will get the orange flavor but it's straight shit in comparison. If you are making margaritas that's one thing. But if you are baking or cooking, spend the money.

Cointreau and Grand Marnier are not quite the same thing. Cointreau is made with orange peels, whereas Grand Marnier is made with bitter orange extract. Also, while De Kuyper do make some nice stuff, I mostly associate them with generic bar mixers.

buy Cointreau op. deep in your heart you know it's the better thing, which is why you come here seeking justification for your expenses. just do it.

this reminds me a lot of the time when I had horrible drinking experiences with gin, which always resulted in throwing up and hungovers. but then I started drinking Bombay Saphire and from that point on, using any other type of gin became redundant (although there are some very good Scottish gins, such as Edinburgh, worth checking out).

but yeah bottom line is, if you pay for quality, you get quality.

No such thing as high end tequila. Patron is the least pleb you can go, and that's really low.

Patron may be a little pricier, but it's still pleb as all get-out. It's deliberately flavorless for stupid Americans who like the idea of "premium" spirits but don't actually like the flavor of tequila.

It's sold to the same assholes who fall for Grey Goose.

Aldi sold a Cointreau second brand (with a yellow cork or something) some time ago that was pretty decent for less than half of the red one. Not sure if they still have it. The real/red is better though, its worth it if you like it plain I'd say.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

You can get away with lesser triple sec in some drinks, but there really is no substitute for Cointreau. It's one of the few fruity liqueurs I could actually drink straight.

Yes, it is. There are other triple secs as good or better for about the same price but I love Cointreau. I use it in margaritas all the time.

My margarita is 1 1/2 ounces blanco tequila, 3/4 ounce Cointreau, 3/4 ounce agave nectar and 3/4 lime juice.
