I mean i agree, and I even buy nice bourbon/wine and occasionally beer. (I don't drink much beer though.) However, the real reason I drink alcohol (and this applies to most) is because it gets you intoxicated. I may be drinking and really enjoying the wine pairings I just paid 80 bucks for at a restaurant, and I love a good glass of whiskey, but none of it is as good as a root beer or a coke.

I'm a connoisseurs of wine and liquor and hate beer. But I do it for myself as a hobby. 90% of my friends/family have no idea.

Yeah. I happily admit that there are occasions when a particular wine (or very occasionally cocktail or beer) can be perfect when paired with food, with each enhancing each other and the experience adding up to more than the sum of its parts.

And there are, of course, times when I go for a good whiskey or tequila and wouldn't have anything else. And I don't like whiskey and coke or whatever. I just think that the vast majority of the time people would choose non alcoholic beverages over alcoholic if alcohol had no effect whatsoever on human beings.

For instance, I've never thought that a beer goes better with pizza or a burger than a coke does. And every time I am drinking a beer with one I wish it was a coke.

But I also almost never drink soda (maybe once or twice a month), and drink 4 or 5 days a week. Make of that what you will.

I hate when people, especially the white know it all fuckers, will tell others that they drink for the taste. Nobody drinks for the taste, especially alcohol. Do you know how fucking idiotic those faggots sound when you see them drinking high proof rubbing alcohol or beer for the taste yet the only people who consume the non alcoholic beverages are the people with health or mental problems? They try to defend their vice by saying stupid shit like that and nobody has 1 beer. Even men will banter each other if some faggot decides to cut early.

He's expressing DISGUST at the claim that soda trumps alcohol.

So he assumes you had a typo in >>6788498, since you wrote as if countering him.

So you're both yelling at each other despite being on the same side because of a simple green-text fuck-up.

if either of you had taken the time to really read each other's posts, we wouldn't be here.

>>6786018
No. Because, as you age, you'll find that certain flavor profiles become more acceptable (bitterness stops being as disgusting as it is to younger people.)

As such, connoisseurs of alcohol are recommending alcohols that are better than cheap alcohols straight, because they legitimately taste them differently than you do, and because smoother alcohol also tends to blend better.

There's also something of a societal issue, where the idea of overly sweet drinks are seen as 'deceptive', for attempting to hide their alcoholic content, and therefore are worthy of disgust.

The fact that cheap beer is called piss water is a completely different issue, and we don't really have time for it here.

Agreed. (And nice dubs.) So, I'm reposting it here for more to see.

Your patience is so short and lack of will so great, it's not surprising you can't understand the complexity of taste in different alcohols. You're just used to milk and juice's quick gratification. That's ok if you're 8 years old, I guess. I mean, children shouldn't be trying alcohol, so it's ok.

I can agree with most of this. But I would much rather drink a good beer or wine alone than any soda. Soda is boring, it's the same thing every time, it tastes nice because it's sweet, although a lot of times too sweet. But the fact that beer/wine/whatever gets me intoxicated is definitely a large factor in why I'm willing to pay what I do for it.

Anyone who claims to be a connoisseur of alcohol is probably just some dipshit who doesn't know much at all about alcohol. The people who are actually knowledgeable just like drinking and won't flaunt it. It's kind of stupid to talk a lot about alcohol because people will just think you're an alcoholic.

The other day some dude came into my bar thinking he was hot shit and tried to order a scotch that doesn't even exist. I politely suggested the closest match. For his second drink he asked for a cocktail made with a largely artificial ingredient that we don't carry so I again suggested a better alternative. He scoffed and said that the real cocktail had to have this one non-traditional ingredient in it. I wish more people would take the opportunity to learn more rather than stopping at the basics and thinking they're an expert.
