I used to have a roommate that made this amazing and hot chili con carne, but he added a tab or two of this mexican hot chocolate.

He said it was for a little spice, but it also had a bunch of other peppers, both fresh and dried. I know it also had queso fresco, cilantro leaves and seeds, and I think 3 types of beans.

Does this sound familiar at all? I can't find a recipe. Also the chilli didn't taste like chocolate at all, nor was super sweet.

It was probably his own recipe. A lot of people add chocolate to their chili. Some even add coffee

It had meat too of course, some special cut of beef I think, but I don't remember it

both chocolate and coffee go GREAT in chilli. adds complexity. also works in curries too

yeah, Cincinnati chili uses chocolate but it's a pretty mutant form. if you don't put in much sugar, it'd be diluted by the rest of the stuff. Mexican hot chocolate also has cinnamon in it, that's a classic addition too.

Is that fucking Mugatu on the cover of that album? Who knew Nestle had the balls to use fictional characters to sell their product.

I've added unsweetened chocolate, sometimes coffee, whiskey, or even vodka. Chocolate adds a richness, it's not supposed to make it sweeter. It can also give the chile a nicer color.

It is better. There's a reason "chocolate ibarra" is used for as a catch-all term for hot chocolate in some parts of Mexico.

Abuelita is manufactured by nestle but I don't know about how /ck/ feels about that company, if it matters at all.
On the other hand this is the one I grew up on

That's what mole is gringo. Chocolate on its own is bitter, much like coffee.
