As someone who cooked for 10+ years and thought about opening my own restaurant I really dig his show. He may be a doofus, but I enjoy seeing the simple restaurants and great dishes that can be made when average people decide they love food and want to share their creations. For the most part these aren't people who went to culinary school, just people who like to cook and make a have created a few great dishes.

Went to Baltimore for about three days last year. Found a couple good restaurants.

Byblos, a Lebanese place in the Federal Hill area was spectacular in every way. Family-run, hole-in-the-wall, cozy as fuck, a bunch of beautiful Lebanese furnishings/artwork everywhere, and oh yeah, fucking amazing food. You really can't go wrong whatever you choose.

The Land of Kush was pretty good too. Vegetarian/vegan soul food lunch counter-type place northwest of downtown. The Mac n cheese and candied yams in particular were some of the best I've ever had.
