>order a barbacoa burrito and a chicken burrito
>putting not only lettuce in the burrito, but huge leafs parts of lettuce, what the fuck?
>say that their hottest sauce is medium, what the fuck?
>eat half of the chicken one
>chicken has no flavor, white cilantro rice as no flavor, the only flavor comes from the sauce which is meh at best
>barbacoa has to have flavor right? its slow cooked and spiced
>brown rice has no flavor, only flavor comes from sauce
>huge pieces of lettuce detract from eating experience
>say they dont have carnitas because "they could prove it was organic"

It's popular for the same reason that places like Taco Bell. McDonalds, Chilis, Applebees, Red Lobster etc. are all popular:

Most people have terrible taste and just don't know any better.

>Chipotle is not fast food
>It's fast casual, this short incomplete Wikipedia article says so https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_casual_restaurant

Everyone who raves about this place.

Chipotle is good, but it's not that awesome if you have a car and can drive beyond 5 minutes from your home. A lot of the hype has to do with the novelty of it and their effective marketing (shit, mention Chipotle on social media sites or reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/changemyview/comments/3eftjs/cmv_taco_bell_is_by_far_the_best_fast_food_choice/ctek2l4 and their own customers will start repeating the marketing to you).

I like Chipotle a lot. Don't get me wrong. I eat it on occasion and I always get the biggest goddamn burrito you can get. I'm a pretty small dude so I pretty much voluntarily rape myself with the burrito. But I'm not sheltered enough to think there aren't better options for burritos (that are cheaper and just as convenient).

This. The only reason to go to chipotle really is

a) The only other place to grab a burrito in your immediate vicinity is a taco bell. If you have a local burrito/taco shop in your town, it's likely better than Chipotle at the same price or cheaper.

b) You really buy into their whole organic/non-gmo rhetoric.

I love chipotle too, but it's hard to justify going there when there are literally five other local restaurants within a quarter mile that have better burritos.

>> No.6713224

I never understood what was so hard about looking up a place and going there.

I worked prep for about 8 months and even the employees seemed to like it. It felt kinda culty. Then again, their training for the first few weeks consist of:

"What does it mean to be motivated/What does it mean to be a restauranteur/etc"
You: Give the most obvious answer
Them: "Nope! Read what it says in the training book"

They seemed to not want to criticize their very place they worked at....

>> No.6713229

>>6713190
People who don't really think much about what they eat fall into 'a' and most who rave about Chipotle probably fall into 'b'.

Both types of people really bother me, because food marketing is huge and easy to impress them. I don't like it when people end up with some hive mind mentality about a business like that when it's completely based on marketing with little to no research whatsoever.

>"What does it mean to be motivated/What does it mean to be a restauranteur/etc"

So your training consisted of this, and your pay wage was about that of your average fast food employee, and you worked "prep", but you stayed there for 8 months? Damn, I would've left pretty quickly.

I like Chipotle but it's not worth the hype it gets. I'd rather just go to a real Mexican restaurant and get a to-go burrito. Lengua if possible. Though I understand that's not an option for everyone.

>> No.6713397

Why do people still think they butcher the cow in their basement and grow their produce in the parking lot? I've heard someone tell me that they squeeze the lime into the rice themselves. They just come in these jugs of lime/citrus juice.

You know what a ReTherm is? A brand that makes these square tanks of water that you heat up and cook shit in. Taco Bell uses this.

Chipotle uses this too. Their beans, your sofritas, and the carnitas cook in there. I believe only the beef is actually cooked on their grill.

It's one thing to believe it's ethical, it's another to go there just because of that. Buying burritos is not political activism and it doesn't stop other companies from doing this.

It's another thing for people to go around and say they most insane stuff about the quality of their food. They don't realize that the key to the quality is in the simplicity of the ingredients.

Most people agree that Chipotle is delicious. It's just that they've expanded their horizons enough to not call it "orgasmic" and to call it a "meme" to hate Chipotle. I'm regularly stuck eating shitty storebought meals for reasons I won't bother explaining so any time I actually get to eat something as good as Chipotle is a godsend.

Here's how you make chipotle taste good.

Get tacos, but ask for the tortillas seperate. Get your meat with beans, tomato, fajita veggies, little corn, and get red salsa and sour cream in portion cups. Take it home and assemble.
