Breakfast like a king
Lunch like a prince
Dinner like a Popper

This is the key to a longer life but how exactly can you fit this into your life?
Should you be eating steak for breakfast?
How light should dinner be?
Please share some real world meal plans.

In the middle ages it was actually considered a sign of poverty to eat breakfast. Only working men, small children and the elderly were generally allowed to eat before noon. Lunch was a generally small affair, while dinner was a large meal.

Also it's spelled pauper, you fucking retard.

I eat like this. I have something substantial in the morning; eggs or chicken or steak, potatoes of some kind (usually cold boiled potatoes from the night before), and fruit. Lunch is vegetables; broile or boiled or baked, whatever is in season. Dinner is a single boneless chicken thigh, two veggies, and potatoes or rice (all in small amounts, the total volume is about 1 1/2 cups). I sometimes have digestive issues and I have found its best to let the stomach rest at night. For that reason I usually eat dinner around 4-5.

I usually eat a very light and sweet breakfast, buttered french toast or croissant or cereal. Lunch is some meat or fish + veggies, sometimes carbs like rice, buckwheat or couscous. About 3-5 pm. I never cook for dinner and eat it about 9 or 10 pm. Small sandwich or two, cereal, maybe pancakes or eggs.

Fruit and snacks inbetween.

I've never understood the concept of cooked and heavy dinner and I've noticed most people here eat like that. Where I live, lunch is traditionally the heaviest meal. Is it work hours? People work long so they eat out or eat something they brought to work, and then they cook in the evening when they come home?

actually, while breakfast wasn't ruled out per se, the general consensus was that it was healthier to eat only two meals a day. there was even an old medieval poem about it.

"To rise at six, to sup at ten, to dine at six, then bed at ten, makes a man live ten times ten!"

so they would basically wake up and start their day at six in the morning, have a meal at 10 a.m., end of their work and have dinner at 6 p.m., then go to bed at 10 p.m.

The basic theory is this:

If you eat a large meal and then go to sleep you are more likely to gain weight from that meal, whereas if you eat your larger meal earlier in the day then you are being active while the food digests and thus you are less likely to gain weight.

Sounds retarded. If we suppose two identical diets that only differ in terms of large breakfast versus large dinner, the total amount of calories in is the same and will be subtracted by the same amount of calories spent in living, in each diet. Even if eating late at night makes you gain that food as fat overnight, since you are eating less in the beginning of the next day, you'll just expend those stored calories anyway. Your body has to get the energy to live somewhere.

>> No.6662512

>>6662498
>total amount of calories in is the same

Per day, yes. But the body doesn't necssiarily work on a "daily" basis.

Let's look at an extreme case: monthly. What if you took a month's worth of food, ate all of it during the first two weeks of the month and then ate nothing during the last two weeks of the month. That certainly wouldn't be good for you, and you might even starve to death. Of course this is an extreme example, but at what point do things change? Weekly? Semi-weekly? Daily? Hourly?

There is research which has established that eating multiple smaller meals throughout the day can increase one's metabolic rate.

So on the one hand eating very infrequently is obviously a major problem. And on the other hand, eating very frequently can have weight loss benefits. (In both cases keeping the total number of calories consumed the same). The question is what period of time between meals is normal? Daily? Maybe. But that seems rather arbitrary.

>Of course this is an extreme example

And therefore possibly not a good analogy. I think a problem with that extreme case is that there are nutrients that our body cannot produce on its own, but needs a constant supply of from external sources. (vitamin C, calcium, some amino acids?) I'm not convinced that someone couldn't live that way, assuming that they were supplemented such nutrients and have water. It'd be uncomfortable though, because clearly our bodies prefer a regular food supply. It probably also is less harsh on the system to have manageable meals consistently rather than to have to process a lot at once and then go into starvation mode.

>but at what point do things change? Weekly? Semi-weekly? Daily? Hourly?

It isn't clear that the drawbacks of the extreme case you posed apply, in an analogous way but on a smaller scale, when the interval between eating periods gets smaller.

>There is research which has established that eating multiple smaller meals throughout the day can increase one's metabolic rate.

I've heard of this, though note that this is in contradiction to the suggestion of eating a really big breakfast. Rather such research would imply that no single meal should be very big in order to avoid weight gain.

>So on the one hand eating very infrequently is obviously a major problem. And on the other hand, eating very frequently can have weight loss benefits

Is there evidence that eating a lot later in the day -slows the metabolic rate- and therefore encourages weight gain? Is such fat storage significant enough that it isn't compensated for by the fact that you don't eat much earlier in the day so your body must be relying on stored resources until later?

I can accept that different eating habits can have different impacts on metabolism and therefore how quickly energy is used up, but the specific claims of the diet in question need to be tested as far as I know.

>> No.6662654

>>6662594
>And therefore possibly not a good analogy

It wasn't supposed to be an analogy. It was supposed to define one end of a line. Eating constantly throughout the day is another. Which means that the optimum "time base" lies somewhere between the two.

>>It isn't clear that the drawbacks of the extreme case you posed apply, in an analogous way but on a smaller scale, when the interval between eating periods gets smaller.

Yes. But what specifically is the best interval for discussion? We can see a trend, but we don't know the exact answer.

>>Is there evidence that eating a lot later in the day -slows the metabolic rate....
I don't know.

My point was simply that >>6662498 talks about "Calories per day", but do we really know if "day" is the time period we should be interested in? Perhaps it's calories per hour, or calories per 4 hours that is important, not calories per day.

If the timebase is indeed "day" (or longer) then 6662498 is correct and it wouldn't make a difference when a big meal was eaten. But if it's a shorter timebase then 6662498 is wrong and it does matter when what meals are eaten.

I'm not sure what your point is. I used "day" because of the convention that caloric recommendations tend to be expressed in terms of days, but any interval could be just as relevant to my original point: Given any interval X, if the calories the body uses are less than the calories taken in, presumably weight will be gained. This alone predicts that it shouldn't matter exactly when eating occurs, regarding weight gain, but then things are complicated if it is apparent that different eating habits based around longer or shorter time intervals have metabolic effects, which make your body produce more or less extraneous calorie-expending heat or something like that. If your point is "eating not often enough kills you and eating small meals often seems to help weight loss, so the interval of eating seems to be important, therefore the diet in question might do something" and my only reply to that would be, someone better go test it.

Something like a protein shake and a tobacco product for breakfast. If you don't use a tobacco product start doing it now, but only right after breakfast. If you aren't into liquid breakfasts and liquid bowel movements for brunch have something like two eggs with hot sauce. If you are too inept to cook two eggs just buy some basic chinese food such as veggie lomein at the beginning of the week and keep it in the fridge.

Fuck lunch. The assholes who take such long lunch breaks and make a big deal about their tofu salad are counter productive to capitalism. If you aren't working at lunch time then you are probably too low among the ranks of society for this meal plan to apply. Anyways any caffeine product will do. If you need some form of sustenance have a sugar free redbull and beef jerky. Why sugar free? Because if you wanna be cool as a clam while everyone else is bitching and moaning after lunch you should have packed a nip of choice alcohol contains a whole lot of sugar. The afternoon is the only time you will need caffeine if you do this for a while.

Dinner is very flexible if you followed the above steps. However it should always include a meat/seafood, starch/carb, basic salad or vegetable. You need to drink before, during, and after, so keep a variety of adult beverages nearby to pair with what your eating. Dinner can be as early or late as you want it. There is no shame in eating alone. If your friends don't want to join you its their loss. If your family is a pain in the ass tell them to leave. Otherwise enjoy the company of others some of the time. Your dinner menu must include variety and you should never repeat a meal more than twice in one week. If this happens, threaten to divorce wife if married, learn to cook and shop if single, go to bar and grill if out of different things to eat. Dinner should be a nice filling meal so you can pass out afterwards with a moderate feeling of inebriation.

>> No.6667979

Do whatever works best for you, so long as you have a decent diet and you're eating the right number of calories overall. What works for a manual labourer isn't necessarily going to work for an office worker or someone on late shifts.
