This was my first time cooking a steak and went with New York strip. Family wanted well done so I thought I would just this time. I wanted medium but oh well. Anyways it came out some what dry but juicier than expected. Seasoned with just salt and pepper. And yes I know most of you think we'll done is a sin but my family doesn't really know to much about this kind of steak. Anyways here are some pics.

this. would be great for a fajita but not for a nice steak for dinner. also judging by the lack of grill marks your grill wasnt hot enough, or you just kept flipping too much.

New York strips aren't known for their glorious marbling.

>> No.6645756

>>6645736

They don't need significant marbling like rib cuts. They are cut from the shortloin. Strip steaks together with the tenderloin make the T-bone or Porterhouse steak. They are a tender, juicy, flavorful and have an incredible texture when cooked to proper rare to medium rare.

If your family doesn't know about it, make both well done and rare and then let them eat it. They'll know which one is better.

I cook my steak in a few seconds because I like it almost raw. It saves time and is scrumptious!

I would eat it to be polite, but every bite would be drenched in bbq sauce or a1 or whatever.

Yes I'm sure the compete lack of marbling on those 3 for $10 ny strips won't matter at all and they'll taste great.

Select is pretty much the lowest grade you'll see in a supermarket, there's one lower but it's used for like dog food and shit. Prime is the best and you'll usually only see it at Costco or steakhouses or online. Choice is good for your every day steak dinner, I'd prefer marinading select and slow cooking it though.

With steaks like that and cooking them well done, you want to marinade them for at least a couple hours. That will actually make the steak tender and give it flavour, which it lacks because it has close to zero marbling.
