How do I get better tips out on pizza delivery?
I'm pretty fast at getting to houses, pizza's always hot and I double check deliveries before they go out. I'm kind and quick.
Some people have checks with tips already on them, some people are on fixed income and I get that. But how do I get more money out of your average joe?

I'll lick an old dude's ass if someone actually has a fail-proof answer for you.

I delivered pizzas for Pizza Hut and the tips were nearly impossible to predict.

Nice house? Penny saved is a penny earned. Here's a dollar or nothing at all. OR I have money and want you to know it. Here's a generous tip.

Dilapidated house? I don't want you to think I'm poor. Here's a nice tip. OR I'm poor. Here's a dollar or no tip.

Best tip I ever got was from a customer who was in physical therapy after losing his legs. It was such a pain to park and get him his food up to his floor. He knew it and tipped generously.

I don't think there's much you can do. Most people have already figured out what they're going to tip before you even get there. They might add or deduct based on how early or late it is, but it's not like anybody's going to be appraising you at the door and offering you extra money for no reason. You provide a service, you're doing it as well as you can, better than most people probably. Get a better job or something if you're not making enough.

I'm assuming if I get repeat orders they might tip me well for being quick and remembering their names.

Oh well.
ITT: personal reasons you would tip someone more?

Take a clipboard or notepad and pen, log your deliveries. If people ask, tell them store policy. If you get fired for that, get another pizza job at will.

It's weird, but it works.

Hard to say. At the end of the day, you want to be making more than minimum wage. Find out what the bare minimum livable wage is in your city, and figure it that way. If everybody tips a dollar, then you're screwed. You only get so many deliveries a night because there are other drivers and some deliveries can last up to 20 minutes or longer.

Pizza Hut gave me the (at the time) $1.25 delivery charge that appears on the receipt. That went straight into my pocket for gas, oil, maintenance, etc. Twenty orders will make you $25 which at the time would easily fill up my tank and then some and last the night. I broke even on gas, but the wear and tear comes out of pocket. They paid me a server's wage which I believe was $3.25. As I'm sure we're all aware from the numerous tips threads, if my tips didn't bring me up to minimum wage, Pizza Hut paid the difference. I reported my tips with every order. You can lie about cash tips, but the ones on credit and debit cards are impossible. You get the cash for those as soon as you bring back the signed receipt, by the way. I worked there long enough for one of the drivers to get caught filling in his own tip. Always scratch out the line if you don't want to leave a tip. And make sure to add trailing zeroes. e.g. $1 should be written as $1.00 or you might find that your order is $9 (i.e. 1 becomes 10) more than you remember paying for.

Unrushed/nonsweaty/clean and pressed clothing. Gentle care with the pizza box as you handle it over, like it's fragile. Be very sweet and grateful for the tip. Wish them a good evening. If you want to race back to your car now, go for it. Just don't run to the door while carrying the bag.
Anyone that is a repeat? Act like you remember them without creepiness, just a "nice to see you again"

I generally tip 3 to 4 dollars on like, fifteen dollars of food. Probably shitty, but I'm generally broke. When I was in College I was insanely good at coupons and would tip 2 to 3 bucks every time (on a 10 dollar order) so it's a step up, lol.

This was actually something I was missing. I tend to rush to the door to save time but I guess it doesn't really matter (because if i'm already late im fucked on tips anyways and if im on time who cares how much time it takes me to get to the door?)

Prompt, polite, respectful service.

The illusion that you're actually happy to be bringing them their pizza. This means a big smile, even when you're dealing with assholes, but don't oversell it.

For those who are inclined to tip, banter goes a long way. A single well placed joke can double your tip easily.

Even when you're swamped with work, never let your body language reflect that. Always stand feet shoulder width apart and when not holding your pizza, hand by your side (relaxed), behind your back or folded just below your crotch. These are nonthreatening poses, which make your customer feel more comfortable and conveys an air of power, without being imposing.

With much of life, confidence is the key. The appearance of being in control is often 3/4 of the battle. However when it comes to clearly trashy/poor people, get in and out; you have nothing to gain by investing more time in them.

Never been a driver, but I work at Domino's. From what I hear from the drivers, whether or not a customer will tip you is mostly predetermined before you get there. The drivers that have been there for more than a few years tend to learn the addresses of regulars and know if and how much they tip, and will sometimes skip their runs and pass them off to other drivers if they know they won't get anything out of it. In short, if you're delivering to a cheap ass, he's not going to tip you more just because you're the nicest driver. Of course, it still doesn't hurt to be nice and smile.
