What do you want? where in the city? Italian market had has good spots. Cheesesteaks are a staple but I'd skip pat's and Geno's and hit Jim's or go to northeast and hit up Joe's. Bbq try sweet lucy's also in ne. Northern liberties/fishtown has good spots. North 3rd, standard tap, Memphis tap are some places I hit up. Best Jamaican is Jamaican D's food trucks or take out joint. I hit the truck at chew and Washington. Pic related oxtail collards snd mac and cheese. Lots of other food truck in University city, Center city and old city have some great places but tend to be on the pricey side. Morimoto has a place in China town that's crazy good but what do you expect from an iron chef. It really depends on where you are and if you want to travel and explore

>> No.6629132

For cheesesteaks, I'd recommend Tony Luke's instead of pat's or Geno's. Other than that, Italian market has some good stuff

You don't even live here, do you?

>morimoto's
>chinatown
Morimoto's is in no way in Chinatown. It's not even all that close. Chinatown's southern border is Filbert Street, though there's nothing Chinatown-y that far south. Its eastern border is 8th Street, though there's nothing Chinatown-y any further east than 9th.
Morimoto's is 7th and Chestnut, more than a few blocks south and east of the southeasternmost corner of Chinatown.

>chew and washington
So... you're telling OP to go to Morimoto's then drive 25 minutes away from anything else worth doing or seeing in Philadelphia, very near the very northern border of the city, to one of the more isolated areas with quite literally nothing to do or see because it's a residential area? When D's has locations all over the fucking place? Really?

Go away and never return.

I have not once ever had a good cheesesteak from Jim's, neither the SS location or the one at Roosevelt Mall. Every single time for some odd reason it winds up being more gristle than anything. Well punt me in the cunt, Anon, the two aren't related at all and just share a name and similar menu.

That happens a lot around here. There's a butcher around my area called 'Cannuli's' who sells only pork. There's another, much larger, more famous butcher in the Italian Market also called Cannuli's that also deals mainly in pork but is also entirely unrelated to the first.

Sometimes, they are related, like Le Anh, The Real Le Anh and The Original Le Anh, which are all rivaling Chinese places.

If you have the ability to head outside the city there are some very good places as well. Ro Lynn Deli in Brookhaven is one of the best hoagie shops in Pennsylvania. Their Chicken Cutlet and Godfather hoagies are two of the best you will ever have. Cocco's Pizza in Aston is the best branch of Cooco's and there is Pica Pizza on Route 3 in upper Darby which is phenomenal.

La Tolteca in Delaware on 202 is the best Mexican and if you like Cajun the French Quarter Bistro in Royersford off of 422 is a must.

In Philly, for non-conventional, there is Krakus Market and Syrenka right across the street in Port Richmond. Robin Williams often ate at Syrenka and he has his picture there. The Chinese Underground Mall with Tasty Place at Race and 11th.

Stolovaya is a solid Russian restaurant in the Northeast and on South Street there is Ishkabibble's which has a great chicken cheesesteak.

Depends on your perspective.
The story goes that the first owner of Le Anh was failing at business and sold it to his brother in law.
Well, his brother in law made it very, very popular, so the original owner asked to buy it back. BiL said 'lolno,' so the guy threw a shit fit and opened "The Real Le Anh" across the street.
To avoid the bullshit, the brother in law sold his business and moved elsewhere under the name "The Original Le Anh." The person who bought Le Anh still operates it under the same name.

Don't know which one I would say is the original.

Similar things happened with this Moroccan guy and his halal pizza joint, Southside Pizza. Sold it to his cousin when the place was failing, demanded it back when it was doing better, didn't get his way, so opened another location using the same font, logo and name.

Happens pretty often here for some reason.

There are two chains of related grocery stores here in Philly called Eight Brothers, Hernandez Brothers and Brothers Hernandez. Similar disagreements.

One of the places in Chinatown I like the most was owned by three brothers. They sell modern-style HK coffeeshop food as well as cocktails and smoothies. After they expanded next door, the youngest brother wanted to have a section devoted only to drinks and light eats, but the other two brothers told him to fuck off as they thought it wouldn't be that profitable.
After lots of arguing, they two elder brothers bought out the younger brother's share of the restaurant so that he could use it to start the place on his own. It was a nice idea. I don't know if the drinks and small eats place is still in business because my brother no longer lives in Chinatown so I don't go there much anymore, but it was very, very good each time I've been.
