hey /ck/, I just got back from a trip to Hawaii! I'm Australian, and you americans do things so weirdly... Like, whenever you go into a restaurant or shop, the salespeople/waiters hound you, asking you if you need something/if everything is alright. Also, your burritos are flavourless. They are SO bland, would it kill you to chuck some spices in there? I dunno, food in America was generally pretty bad. Is it just cause it is so different to what I'm used to? or is American food legit awful. (Did have some DELICIOUS Thai curry while I was over there)

Burritos in the homeland are top quality. They ask you if uou need anything because their income comes almost entirely from tips and it's custom. Better to annoy you with trying to serve you too hard than have you sit there pissed off because no one has asked if you need anything.

Hawaii is mostly a tourist economy. You were eating at too many places that catered to picky midwestern american tourists, and you were clearly a mark to the touristy shops you went in. Congratulations on finding good Thai food though. Ok, so Hawaii is culinarily a fusion of pacific rim cuisines. Almost every asian restaurant is going to be pretty fucking good. But the real good shit, the shit the locals eat is kind of a polynesian version of soul food. Do some research for your next trip.
