6611785 No.6611785 [Reply] [Original]

Anyone else think their parents and baby boomers in general are way more autistic in their eating habits?

When I was in college I cooked all my meals for myself. Learned different techniques and how to season things. My parents pretty much just buy prepackaged stuff and eat out 3-5 times a week. The closest they get to cooking is a can of red sauce and a package of spaghetti with ground beef with absolutely no seasoning or sides.

There's a bunch of other little shitty things they do with food too. My Dad will only eat steaks well done. Says he only likes meat burnt. He likes to burn his eggs as well. They use a George Foreman grill for burgers and wonder why they don't taste the same.

Pic related. It's what they made themselves for dinner tonight.

My parents can and will pretty much eat or cook or try anything.

Its worth noting they both grew up in incredibly poor families that lived on farmed and hunted food. They both later joined the military and traveled around the world, so I reckon shitty food in young life plus moving a lot as an adult makes you pretty open minded.

I sincerely worry about your critical thinking skills if this is proving so frustrating for you.

I don't understand that pic.

Other shit about my parents having bad taste. You know that scene in The Simpsons where Homer sits down and eats an entire package of American cheese? My Dad's done that before.

My parents don't really drink because of religion but when I have seen them drink my Dad will refuse any beer other than a Coors Light. I took him to a bar one time and he was shocked it cost $2 to get a Coors Light. I guess the last time he was at a bar was in the 80's. He does have really good taste in whiskey though.

My Mom buys the diet or "low fat" version of everything. Uses artificial sweeteners instead of sugar. I showed her a bunch of articles and information on why this was bad but she wouldn't have any of it.

Bit of a sweeping statement.

Mum's eating habits are a little autistic. She grew up kind of poor but not seriously poor, and learned some horrendous cooking habits from her own mother that she never really unlearned. She doesn't season anything, won't buy anything but jarred ginger and garlic, and won't taste food as she's making it.

Dad on the other hand has good taste and can cook. Not sure where he learned to cook from though because his mother isn't that great either.

But even though neither of them are spectacular cooks they both like good food and steer away from processed stuff wherever possible.

>> No.6612040

>>6612028

Well I sort of have. Not in a bitchy kind of way but more like trying to gently show her some stuff I know about cooking.

She'll tell me she that it's too much work or if I start putting various seasonings or extra ingredients into things she'll tell me that that's too much and that her and my Dad like simpler flavors.

>> No.6612048

>>6611785
Mine did the same thing

As soon as I moved out, my mom started making these nasty as fuck vegetable/fruit smoothies with shit like chia in it. I normally dont mind vegetable drinks, but she uses whatever the latest thing the TV doctors says are great for you.

Also, she's self-diagnosed herself as having arthritis despite her doctor not even mentioning it and has gone as gluten free as she can stand. It pisses me off for really irrational reasons.

And dont get me started on her "food coloring is giving you cancer, for real doctor Oz and Oprah said so" garbage.

She even tried to go vegetarian for a little while, but it didn't last thanks to her decision to only eat pre-packed vegetarian dishes. She can't cook to save her life and, when she tries, doesn't season anything. I cant count the times she's made "beautiful salmon fillets" that dont have an ounce of seasoning or flavor on them.

And my stepdad just piles up every leftover in the house into a slurry and downs it, but Im just ranting at this point.
