Honestly, I don't even know why anyone bothers with anything but instant, it tastes almost the same unless you drink it black.
And don't tell me that black coffee actually tastes good, nobody enjoys that shit except for middle-aged people with a diminished sense of taste.

I really like the mild, nutty espresso my Starbucks Barista machine makes. I keep some instant coffee around for making coffee milk but it really doesn't compare at all.

Do people just throw their kettles out nowadays or what?
I used to be a fan of black coffee brewed as hard as I could in high school but someday half a year into uni I just lost interest and moved on to various teas. It helps that our family has a garden with stuff like mint, melissa, blackcurrant and other stuff to put in tea when you're brewing it.

I don't know about others but I've never owned a stove top kettle, only cheap $8 kmart electric ones. It rarely gets used because I only drink free coffee from the espresso machine at work.

But if I wanted to boil water at home and had no electricity I would just use a saucepan on the gas stove

I find instant cuban coffee (espresso) granules are absolutely delicious in hot milk as a cafe con leche, where more bitter elements are sweetened and softened by creaminess. I steep that milk in the microwave in a glass measuring cup (to prevent boil over), stir in sugar and instant coffee. Bam! Perfection! You can also add an inch of hot tap water to a tall glass with sugar and espresso powder, stir to dissolve. Fill er up with ice. Top with 8oz of milk. Instant iced latte. Hit with some cinnamon or nutmeg, or a splash of half & half. Try Bustelo or Publix brand. Both are mild and nutty. It's important to keep the cap quickly closed and tight and use within a month, or it can go stale. Buy the right size.

I'm the first one to enjoy a french press and some freshly ground beans, too! I nuke my water in a big pyrex. I just don't find it fast in the mornings or for a quick pick me up, more of a savoring treat.
