i actually like them and can't explain why other than "they taste good". can't even describe their taste, guess that makes them unique which might factor into the appeal to some people.

For the longest time I was confused as to why people made a big deal over truffles, as I had eaten chocolate truffles before and they weren't anything special.

I bought a couple of pleb black truffles once, and sliced them up by hand with a very sharp knife. Slicing it was maybe a bit like slicing a water chestnut. I imagine it wouldn't be the most pleasant thing to bite into.

yeah. i've tried it with summer truffle before. not much point, it's very dry and not tasty like that. not hard like nutmeg. bit like cork.

Chipotle.

I live in Canada, within an hour of the nearest CHipotle, but when we do road tripds SOBO, my friends don't want to stop. I've taken my car and rode 1hour and cross the border for a McRib, but never did it for a CHipotle.

I like to just contemplate the taste it would have. I dream about it. Not sure I'm ready to make the dream end.

Does it worth it /ck/?

It's a pretty deep and earthy flavor, it's good to have it first in a simple dish where it does all the work, like truffle pasta: You'll recognize the taste and identify it much faster and then will be able to understand where and how to use it

It's pretty common in some countries in EU. Which country are you in? In mine, it's not all that common except for at African grocers but if you hop the border to the next country over, its commonality skyrockets. Even there, though, it's not exactly an everyday thing, but from there, you hop another few countries up, and it's everyfuckingwhere.

If you can't find it in an import store it's really easy to make it yourself. Take some roasted peanuts, stick into a food processor and blend until smooth. You can add a tiny bit of peanut oil to help with the consistency but you generally won't need to, the peanuts themselves are plenty oily. Then all you need to do is add salt and either brown sugar or honey to taste.

It had an overpowering smell very reminiscent of petrol.
I don't think petrol has an unpleasent smell but I wouldn't want to associate it with food.

Alligator is good. Not great. I just thought it was chicken when I was eating it (it should be noted that they were fried alligator bites, so I want to try it again in a different form.)

Deer is fantastic. My family disagrees - they think it's too gamy. If that's not a problem for you, definitely get your hands on some.

>> No.6587375

Certainly LOOKS like something I could enjoy eating, but isn't a long-living animal that gets alot of excercise in it's lifetime going to be tough and toxin-laden?

>> No.6587403

>>6587375

It shouldn't be tough. Just like with a cow there are different cuts of meat on the carcass. Some are tough and some are not. A "steak" would be made from a tender cut rather than a tough one.

>>toxin laden
That would be a risk for carnivours whales but it's not a concern for most. The filename says that came from a minke whale. Those are plankton eaters so they avoid the toxin concentration that large predatory fish can have.

Also the toxin thing isn't a concern at all, unless you're eating fish often. If it's an every-once-in-a-while thing it's of no concern and I doubt you'd find many people who eat whale every day.
