In Western society, creaminess, which is found in milk, butter, some oils and of course, cream, is valued over the texture found in a raw egg. Western people consider raw eggs to be "snot-like" and unpalatable.

In Eastern society the opposite is true.

Oriental people enjoy the raw egg texture and consider creaminess to be a "thick" flavor, which is less desirable.

Actually it is true that Japan has really strict food regulation, this gets a lot of Japanese farmers shut down and is part of the reason why Japanese farming traditions have fallen apart in the last three decades. The USA certainly isn't lax, but not as strict as Japan. Japan is almost damaging to their industry with how much they do.

I eat raw eggs all the time. I mix them into drinks.

In fact, back in the days before America went to shit, it was common for folks to walk into a diner or drug store and order a malted milk, with a raw egg or two added. Nobody whined about salmonella, because eggs back then didn't come from huge overstuffed disease prone factory farms.

Where do I get my eggs? Not the grocery store. I buy from a local guy who keeps a flock of about 75 free range hens, the birds wander about his property, eat bugs, eat the grains and cracked corn he puts out for them, have nesting boxes they go to as they please. It's a 1920's style of agriculture and he has eggs to sell every day.

Delicious, poison, cruelty and drugs free, natural and healthy eggs. 3 bucks a dozen, half what free range store bought eggs cost.

Factory farming is really beginning to suck.

Eggs have been coming from factory farms for decades. The problem is not that the eggs got any dirtier or more contaminated, the problem is that latter generations have developed some kind of crazy fear of things that people didn't worry about in the past. Yes, there's a risk that an egg might have salmonella. But that risk is tiny. Always has been. People didn't really know in the past, but generation X and later seems paranoid about it.

Our parents would ride their bikes over to their friend's house without a second thought. These days we load up our kids with their cell phone to call home, their helmet, knee & elbow pads, etc and make sure they use their hand sanitizer when they're done.

Nothing wrong with wearing a helmet. But some people take it to extremes. Wearing a helmet when riding your bike is a good idea. Forcing your kid to wear a helmet and four different kinds of obscure pads when all they're doing is riding their bike 40 feet to the mailbox and back is just ridiculous.

Likewise with food. There are plenty of safety precautions that are just common sense: wash hands, avoid cross-contamination, keep food at the proper storage temperature. Etc. But avoiding raw eggs over the miniscule risk of salmonella is about as silly as telling your kid he can't ride his bike without shin guards, a cup, and steel-toed boots.
