Steak looks perfect...but why cheese on mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes with some butter and garlic doesn't need anything on it at all.

Although cream gravy certainly is nice

>Look at stupid sideways photograph of somebody's dinner. Ignore the sideways part.

>Use personal bias against gross lumps of fat on anything to downgrade OP's steak and cooking efforts, because fat is gross and squishy.

>Note poor plating technique, cheese riot in progress.

>OP failed to peel his potatoes. Lazy and makes disgusting mashed potatoes.

>Bizarrely odd specks in potatoes. Is that dirt? Did OP NOT wash his unpeeled potatoes? Or is that fly shit? Did OP leave the plate out unattended?!! Are the potatoes cold? Or is it just black pepper? Can't tell.

>Yucky smoosh of breakfast is on the tablecloth... Uggh.

>Why again is there a cheese riot in progress? There's even some on the steak.

>Plate has a pattern on it I don't like. Stupid bush in a bucket. Reminds of broccoli.

> Steak is very pink in the middle and exterior looks very charred. Definition line is extremely narrow. Grill or pan so hot it squeaks. Or... I suspect shenanigans. Is this a sous vide steak cooked to rare and then vulcanized briefly on each side?

>Also, I'm always suspicious of the "juiciness" as depicted in these sorts of photos. A finger of vegetable oil brushed against a cut edge of steak will make even a manhole cover look juicy.

Trim the fat, loose the cheese and peel your potatoes anon. Other than that, the plate and the filthy table cloth, well done!

I actually like it that way. Just what I was raised on. I'll peel them next time, see how it compares.

>Bizarrely odd specks in potatoes. Is that dirt? Did OP NOT wash his unpeeled potatoes? Or is that fly shit? Did OP leave the plate out unattended?!! Are the potatoes cold? Or is it just black pepper? Can't tell.

Cracked black peppercorns.

>Yucky smoosh of breakfast is on the tablecloth... Uggh.

Close. Roommates' lunch party left a mess on the table cloth. It's currently in the washer.

>Why again is there a cheese riot in progress? There's even some on the steak.

Normally, I mix the cheese into the potatoes. I forgot this time, and just put it on top to mix in with the fork.

>Plate has a pattern on it I don't like. Stupid bush in a bucket. Reminds of broccoli.

Yeah, if my plates didn't get broken during the last move... I miss my translucent blue plates.

> Steak is very pink in the middle and exterior looks very charred. Definition line is extremely narrow. Grill or pan so hot it squeaks. Or... I suspect shenanigans. Is this a sous vide steak cooked to rare and then vulcanized briefly on each side?

Grilled at 193 degrees Fahrenheit in roommates propane grill. Some of the burners aren't all that great, so I took today to clean the grill in preparations for next time.

>Also, I'm always suspicious of the "juiciness" as depicted in these sorts of photos. A finger of vegetable oil brushed against a cut edge of steak will make even a manhole cover look juicy.

The flash picked up on the moisture there. Makes it look shinier than it actually was.

Keep an eye out for my next thread. I'll see if I can't improve, and also figure out my phones obsession with showing the pictures in the correct orientation on screen, but uploading them rotated.

Why bother peeling them unless you are having a date or something? it is healthier and easier

tbh your mash looks like the junkie ones you just mix with water

OP here.

Your comment horrifies me. Those instant potatoes boxes are disgusting and the... Stuff... Inside them looks like dishwasher detergent.

I used Idaho russets for my potatoes.

My mash:
Russets, scrub'em clean.
Chop the smalls into quarters, larger ones into eighths.
Boil them until you can't lift them with a fork
Drain, return to pot.
Add milk, butter, salt, pepper, and garlic.
Mash the ever loving fuck out of them.
Normally, here is where I add sharp shredded cheddar, possibly some sour cream or ranch depending on what else is made.
