Going to trader joe's for the first time. What should I buy? What do you buy?

>> No.6555112

I would have told you to buy the bagel chips, but apparently those fuckers discontinued them.

So buy the frozen chili rellenos then.

It's a meme store, so you should buy meme groceries. Get a case of their shitty wine and some hummus.

Bagel chips a shit. So dry and un-flavorful.

The other day I made scrambled eggs with bacon grease, their artichoke antipasto, and some cherry tomatoes. Best eggs I've ever had, in terms of flavor. The antipasto makes them a little runny though.

Shop your heart's desire for things. They're known to have bargains on staples, everything from crackers, chips, cereal, nuts. The produce is usually attractive for being some unique variants. Meats and cheeses are just whatever you go gaga over, but not a bargain. The frozen food makes people happy for being fully international in theme.
I usually stock up on chocolate, and simple snacks.

TJ's is a great place for someone who lives off convenience and snack foods. They sell lots of fake-healthy junk food. If that's you it will seem like paradise. If you actually cook there's little reason to choose TJ's over any other reasonably well stocked supermarket.

Microwave dinners and "exotic" memefoods like rancid mafia EVOO that's actually canola oil dyed green, and the new avocados.

TJs is for people who want to be foodie but their mom won't let them play with fire and sharp things.

Dry roasted Almonds spiked with flecks of dried lemongrass, dried lime zest, chilies, and fish sauce is one oddity you only find in hipster-friendly TJs. They are something that fills a niche for foodies to get exciting things at a bargain, but not a real replacement for regular groceries if you know what I mean. If bacon was once a thing you were in on the craze about, you can be assured TJs had it in their chocolate bars, breads, cookies, so not to be left out. You'll find kale chips, store brand of biscoff butter/nutella. If sprouting is the new vegan craze, something there will be including it, from bread to breakfast muffins. When pumpkin spice latte insanity starts in the Fall, it'll be in 20 TJs products. The uncured meat selection is great for those concerned about carcinogens, and if stevia seems the best sweetener in health circles, to replace agave, TJs will move towards that. That's how they work. But, I've never had anything they've done that didn't pass a taste test and meet with my approval. I just, honestly, cook too much at home to go on grazing trips at TJs. I love to go there before a flight and get some plane snacks, or while I'm out of town, to load up a hotel room or car with some easy things that seem like more than poverty crap you get at 7-11.

I like their spinach and kale pie

just be careful and make sure you're aware of prices. some things are ridiculously cheap compared to your regular grocery store, while others are way more expensive.

for example, canned crab at TJ's was 1.99--it's usually 6.99 or higher at my grocery store.

but their tuna was 1.69, whereas at my grocery store it's 69 cents.

if you're going because you want a bargain, just be aware.

I hope they have sardines in Harissa this time. I went when they were putting them in special and they were the only ones sold out. I settled on plain ones packed in oil and it was gross

It been years sinc I lived by one, but I used to buy standard things like coffee, cheeses, nuts and the like there. They had some great stuff. I could not stand any of thier prepared products though. I fell for the label several times and was disappointed every singe time.

>> No.6555419

>>6555398

most of their prepared products are just repacked versions of other products, so the quality varies

like >>6555247 said some of their stuff is ridiculously cheap, like frozen fruit or tortellini

activated almonds

damned decent selection of international beer, mine even carried Samuel Smith (i moved)

also try a free coffee sample
tons of babes usually shop there. the place tends to attract upper middle class young people and old folks, so sniff up their loveliness as you walk around looking lost.

the avocados near the beer section are usually the ripest because nobody grabs them (they're hanging in bags, there for drunk guacamole).

fresh & easy honestly has better hummus, but okay. try their hummus.

Get sunflower seeds. I think it's $1.00 for a 1 pound bag. Fuck David's, and fuck Frito-Lay.
Their cottage cheese is the best I've ever had. I could demolish the whole large container in one sitting.
They have pumpernickel pretzel sticks in the snack section. Those are godlike.

I went the other day, got some pre made burritos ( black beans and cheese, and a quinoa with sweet potato one), shelled Edamame, organic bananas for 20cents each, 1 liter of iced tea for $1.50, frozen veggies pizza, lots of meme food

I go there for cheap yogurt, dried fruits, nuts, frozen berries, and occasionally beverages. The bread goes bad too quickly, the meats are too expensive, and the produce is priced at the "each" instead of by the pound, so that sucks too. Some of the condiments and ice cream is worth it (they have a great salted caramel gelato), but the frozen foods aren't great (although I don't really like any frozen meals, they all taste too bland and shitty to me).

that artichoke spread is great.

my picks
>kale sprouts -- like brussels sprouts but meme-ier
>any and all cheese, they have a great well-priced selection.
>beer
>frozen convenience meals, the chicken tikka in particular
