Homemade pálinka, it's like vodka but Hungarian. Dad in law used to make it, grandpa in law still makes it, and a lot of dad in law's workbuddies fire up their own batches. Quality differs depending on lots of factors, but grandpa always makes amazing, clear and really potent pálinka with a refreshing flowery aftertaste. It's both warming and refreshing, and usually when it's good enough it goes from 60% to (more likely) 80%. Grandpa's is always at that upper level.

Best part about it? A liter of the stuff is two or three euro, tops. Always good times when we visit my gf's motherland, I'll tell you that.

My roommate and I are pretty good at getting hammered for about 15 bucks. That'll buy you a handle of quality Nikolai Vodka, about 10 bucks, and a four pack of 16oz purple "blackberry" steel reserve for about 3.50. I've had worse vodka and purple steel reserve has so much sugar you can't taste the 8% alcohol

I work in a ky liquor store chain that gets this vodka on an exclusive deal from one of the bourbon distilleries. It's called Nikolai. It's 4.99 for a 750ml, 9.99 for a 1.75L, and 19.99 for a BOX conataining two 1.75L bags.

Boxed vodka. I saw the dawn of doom.

Anyway I'm told it's not the worst thing in the world. A mixer but tolerable.

a pint of some weird, unknown microbatch gin on sale a local liquor store for $2.19 a pint. It didn't even have a brand name I don't think, just a small description that it was a small batch gin from canada. No clue why it was so dirt cheap, sometimes they sell opened or otherwise compromised bottles of liquor for a big discount up at the counter, but there was nothing wrong with this bottle. Was pretty good too. Otherwise the cheapest pint of liquor is like $4 for some shitty vodka
