It looks like a perfectly good beef scrap and wonder bread sandwich with poorly made chocolate pudding splashed all over it. Or paint. Or somebody who ate a tub of pudding the night before along with a bad clam shat all over it.

Or its a cheaply made beef scrap and wonder bread (no butter) sandwich which has been drenched in really cheap "gravy". "Gravy" (it needs the quote marks because it's not actual gravy) stirred up from a big box of powder first ir second thingnin the morning and allowed to sit, then stuck in the heat well of the kitchen in a gallon size stainless steel tub with loose fitting lid, where it forms a scum crust that has to either be peeled back or stirred in whenever somebody orders "gravy".

The French fries look cooked from frozen and pickle is deeply offended to have been included in this gastronomic farce.

If you paid more than 5 bucks, you got buttered, toasted and screwed OP.

we have this a few times a year here. Usually done a couple days after whatever meal we had the meat with, just to get rid of the leftovers. Eaten with a fork and spoon of course, good as fuck. Always look forward to these. The name fucking escapes me at the moment though

Yes, and you were correct and I was wrong. I'm challenged however in that I am a Canadian and this sandwich was invented by the us army.

And we have a place near where I live that does corned beef and potato hash on toast and calls it that. I can now gleefully point out they are wrong, which is something...

Hot Turkey with yello-fat gravy (that's what I call it) now all you need is a bit of stuffing and cram berry (yes cram because it helps you cram the food in.) Jelly...

>the civilized world stopped being in awe of sliced white bread a century ago.
That would be 1915 and most of the "civilised" (to use your term oh perfect one) did not even have sliced bread, white or otherwise. As for OP's pic, the correct Amerifat way to do it is oval plate, two slices bread, two scoops instant mashed potatoes, two wads cooked to death roast beef, pour jarred or canned gravy over all. The pickle spear is extraneous garnish. A desperate attempt to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. Also nobody eats gravy on fries except maybe poofy Belgians, some Frogs, and the 'nadians. At least the latter put cheese on theirs.

Gravy on fries is pretty common around here (new england). Basic diner fare, and if you go to the right places that make their own gravy/Guinness gravy, it is god tier.
