Aniseed balls.

My uncle used to own and run the grocery place on a caravan site and when we went there on holiday, me and my bro were allowed to go behind the counter and help ourselves to the sweets. I used to eat these all the time and watch my mother wince when I cracked them between my teeth.

My hometown used to be the definition of "the sticks". We had one gas station owned and operated by this shaggy old hippy type who had the same t shirt on every time i saw him, about 5 or 6 miles from the house. On weekends when my dad wasn't working, we'd both hop on our bikes and ride over there and get individually wrapped haagen daaz bars, pretty much the only prepackaged junk food I ever got. I can't even eat them now unless the old man is with me, just doesn't feel right.

Nah. Not how memories work. You might remember experiences in a very general sense, but not to a level like that. And anything as specific as a packaged food brand is a false memory.

After school, on certain evenings, the main school assembly hall would be converted to a darkened disco with flashing coloured lights and strobe lights and 80s pop music like Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Spandau Ballet that sort of thing.

There's be a tuck shop selling Panda Pops, sweets, sometimes hot dogs and burgers or slices of pizza. I remember they even wheeled in some arcade machines one time. Donkey Kong and Pac Man.

I've never felt so cool as I did at when I was 10 years old, kitted out head to toe in denim and playing an arcade game with all my m8s gathered round, a Swizzels Drumstick hanging out of my mouth like a cig and the DJ spinning some B52s or Survivor.
