It's been 15ish years since I ate fast food.

On a whim, I tried some today. 2 cheeseburgers, 2 fries, 1 chocolate shake.

Only the fries are like they were 15 years ago and are "okay". The shake is rather thin and doesn't taste like a "milk" shake. It is also overly sweet and the chocolate flavor seems a bit weak. The burgers are....well they are essentially nothing. The bread has more texture than the meat does. It is like eating meat-flavored paste. The meat patty is also amazingly thin I could probably eat ten of these and not even realize it. This is a stark contrast to my homemade crinkle cut Yukon gold potato French fries, ground steak burgers, and milk shakes made from whole milk, Breyers ice cream, sugar, and cocoa powder.

All-in-all, very underwhelming.

How does /ck/ even have the right to defend something like this?

People like justifying overpaying and supporting something ridiculous more than they can manage to change their opinions and think realistically.

Update: the second box of fries had a rotten potato in the bunch. Blech.

>>6478571
It wasn't this bad. 30 years ago it was even better and actually fairly good. The fries really haven't changed like at all that I can really tell; just salt delivery systems with no discernible flavor. The buns seem the same too. I think the slice of cheese and ketchup had the most flavor of anything.

I'm trying to remedy the shake by putting it into the freezer. Maybe it will improve when mostly frozen.

>>6478573
My homemade burgers cost about $1.66 just for the meat in 1 burger. I use a Universal Food Chopper to chop up the steak then I form it into patties for the grill. Infinitely better.

Imagine being in stuck in an airport in a country you had no intention to visit and when pressed, admit to despising as much as cat-AIDS. But then you see the golden "M" arches of McDonalds. This branch serves"McArabias" and its female staff are covered in black veils but they still offer things you're familiar with such as a "Big Mac", "large fries" or a tasty "Filet-O-Fish" along with free WIFI. And you pay before recieving your meal and don't tip which is always better than paying for your food while sitting next to empty plates.

It is only when you've experienced this that you will realize the true strength of McDonalds.

Well some people don't enjoy cooking. If cooking is a chore for you then you have to consider the opportunity cost of taking out 30-60 minutes for prep and cooking. That makes fast food look cheap in comparison.

All the debate fast food stirs up here can easily be avoided if people admit that not everyone likes cooking. This goes for those defending fast food as well, they should admit that they don't enjoy cooking. Apart from the 1-2% who are actually too busy to cook.

>> No.6478972

>>6478884
You've never had a homemade milkshake before? You make them with real ice cream. Emphasis on "cream". They taste a bit buttery. The stuff you get at fast food places is just a fake knockoff using bland milk from Holstein cows.

If you don't make your milkshakes from Jersey cow or Guernsey cow milk you are drinking a very subpar milkshake.

Yes and they have nothing to do with the people who don't like cooking. I've tried to get people into it and while they'll be proud of putting in effort to make something that tastes decent the act of cooking itself is a chore for them. For me cooking is very relaxing. Even when I have leftovers ready to be heated up and eaten I'll grill some bread to eat with it. For others even small tasks in cooking annoy them. I don't think it's worth it for them. We all like to say that cooking is a survival skill and it is but a survival skill isn't something you have to enjoy.

You felt the need to start a whole thread just to announce that you make big-boy food?
Nobody thinks that McDonald's is fine dining, or even acceptable dining. The "how can you people eat this?!?!?!?!?" attitude is stupid; 90% of the people who eat McDonald's do so because it's convenient, (somewhat) cheap, and hits a greasy craving.
You don't get a trophy because you think a $1 hamburger is mediocre.

Honestly, I only eat McD's for the nostalgia factor. I used to get happy meal as a kid and it made my day cuz yeah, fast food! Nowadays I realize the food is shit, but the interior of the restaurant and the familiar taste makes me feel fuzzy. Especially nice when you're drunk and need to feel safe and comfortable on a rainy night.

>> No.6481231

It's been said by plenty of others, but the fact that your homemade food is cheaper and tastes better isn't surprising. That's not the point of fast food. The point is that it's fast. I hate cooking, I hate the prep, and the cleanup. I sure enjoy the result, but it is an awful chore to me.

Fast food is passively acceptable because I get something that fills my stomach in under 5 minutes from the time I place the order to when I drive away with it. I don't expect a gourmet experience, but at the end of it, I only have to throw away a bag.

His little story states that he's stuck in an Airport. Have you ever been stuck in an airport? The food choices are usually EXTREMELY limited unless you are at one of those top class airports, and "local" cuisine is usually nowhere near by.

Singapore Airport is fucking GOD TIER. It's literally like an international shopping center that is also an airport. So much shopping, and food from all over the fucking world is served there. Also the hanging gardens and the butterfly garden were pretty damn awesome.

Taipei also had some very nice food selections, although not as many.

Jakarta airport was fucking garbage. Waited 2 hours for our bags and their only "decent" restaurant was a fucking A&W which was crowded as fuck.

I can kind of understand that, I never eat mcdonalds except when drunk and maybe once or twice when hung over on my way home. The cheeseburger always tastes the same and it gives me kind of a strange good feeling to taste it, but I could never eat that shit on a normal day. Eating it drunk is delicious and feels good + you barely remember it the next day.
