Britfag here, broke my root beer virginity the other day with A&W and it was disgusting. Is it meant to taste like that?

Being a Britbong is suffering sometimes. Root beer is hard to come by and often way overpriced

Best I've had so far is A&W but got a bottle of Virgils chilling, worst so far is Dad's but that's not saying I didn't like it. I've liked all I've tried

>mfw there used to be a stall doing homemade sarsaparilla, root beer, ginger beer and dandelion and burdock but they closed down due to lack of demand

Stewarts. It has a delicious thick taste to it.

Good advice: try Blue Sky! I'm not big on root beer, but it's fantastic.

That's true, but it doesn't need to be outstanding to be quality! On a side note, their ginger ale is pretty fine, but way strong if you're not used to it...

I've always liked Barq's out of the ones pictured, much creamier taste and mouthfeel

I only like Barq's simply because it has caffeine... normal root beer or a majority of all root beer doesn't seem to have any though. I have no favorite in terms of taste. They're all good.

Barqs because it bites at your mouth the way root beer should. God damn it's refreshing as a float.

I usually go IBC or A&W, mostly because it's the easiest to get around here and I'm not really in the mood for overpriced specialty root beer. I just want a smooth soda with a bit of a punch; not a gourmet , hipster concoction.

The best root beer I have ever had was the stuff a local brewer used to make for a local festival each year. $1 a bottle, 50 cent refills if you kept your bottle, returning the bottle at the end of the day got you 25 cents back. The bottles were really cool though, so often times I kept them.

As for stuff that you can buy, pic related was from my childhood. I just hope they still make it with real sugar; haven't had one in ages. Checking the website, it seems they do. Good on you, gents. Maybe I should go get some from BevMo since it seems they carry it there.

http://blog.gourmetrootbeer.com/2013/03/brownie-caramel-cream-root-beer/

"The Body has a very rich sassafras flavor that gives way to luscious caramel and cream that thankfully tastes nothing like brownies. It’s absolutely delicious. There is a prickly carbonation Bite but not much in the spice department, rather, it is nice and smooth. The Head is medium height but fizzes away in less than a minute unfortunately. The Aftertaste is more rich caramel and cream that lasts just long enough to make you want more but not so long as to be annoying when you can’t get it.

Well, I wasn’t prepared for that. I really love this flavor. I love creamy caramel flavored root beers and this takes it to a whole new level. You can really get lost in that caramel and never want to come back. It seems that the milk comes from real cream, but it works like I’d never imagined. Sweet and rich and smooth and lovely. This blew me away. The Head is disappointing but just barely good enough. I guess you can’t judge a root beer by it’s label. See how it rates against other root beers."

That sounds good but I ain't paying $30-$40 for a 12-pack of pop.
