The shape is more comfortable for gripping than most rounded cups, even tho it has a handle. Honestly theres no difference in function, one just is shaped a bit different than the other

It's an old southern thing mostly. People were making moonshine, pickling, and making all sorts of jams so there was just an abundance of them laying around the house.

Glass makes drinks taste better than plastic and is better to look at than ceramic. The problem with glassware is that it's fragile and thus reserved for drinking alcohol or for company. Glass jars are more rugged than glassware and thus a good option for drinking shit like juice, ice tea and beer. Or anything else in large quantities.

I have lots of preserve/pickling/etc jars that work just as good as cups.

Also, I actually did get some of those with handles on them from a friend who just so happened to have some, which is a pretty nice smoothie storage solution for a quick breakfast.

I had a beer cup and a tea cup but no drinking glasses. So I just washed up one of my sauce jars and drink from that now. That's why.

I reuse the jars that I get homemade jam in as presents during christmas. Fuck off, I'm cheap.

my university usually gives out mugs for voting but this time they fucked up and gave us tiny jars without lids instead and that's why I'm drinking from a jar.

It used to be cool, but jumped the shark when they started putting handles on them. Now it's uncool.

I just save the glass jars the jelly I like comes in.
It's the stuff we make here in oregon and it's tasty, and if I just wash them I have a bunch of free cups for guests that have a comfortable octangular shape to them and as a bonus they smell like jam.
I don't think it's anything to use capslock about unless the threads on the lip really bug you, I like em.

This. I grew up drinking out of mason jars. I've never gone out and bought special drinking glasses, I've just always used canning jars.

>> No.6445814

I have absolutely no issue with drinking out of glass jars, I've been doing it forever and so has the rest of my family, it just pissed me off when hipsters latched on and started selling mason jars specifically for drinking like OP's picture. That literally defeats the entire purpose.

My favorite bar serves beer out of mason jars. 16 oz, vs 12 oz.
