Why don't more people eat Manta Rays?
They seem as if fried they might be tasty treats.

>> No.6426139

They're extremely rare and hard to catch. Not worth the cuisine that's better with more available alternatives.

>yfw a lot of seafood companies and restaurants pass off stingray as "scallops".

You've probably had stingray before and not even known it.
Now, manta rays are different, as they are much larger and considered CITES Appendix 2, which means their capture and trade is highly regulated.

Bullshit that they're rare, not in south Florida, I might say eating them as a joke, but they'e quite beautiful.

They are all over Florida, man. I see them at the beach a lot. Also I remember in 4th grade going to the Indian River Lagoon and doing the stingray shuffle in the water. Worst field trip ever.

Lol no.

A restaurant trying to cheap-out with stingray instead of scallops would soon learn that stingray develops a horrifying ammonia taste and smell.

Manta rays look like they have a smily face from underneath. Of course they're not really smiling but that would still put me off eating them

you're probably thinking of smaller rays rather than manta rays.

He's probably not. My schools mascot was the Manta Ray. They aren't rare in Florida, you can go out and snorkel with them any time you want

You're assuming they let the ray sit and/or freeze. I've eaten in plenty of coastal restaurants that use ray as "scallops". (Protip, I worked in the resturant supply industry in a major port city)

The hell they are rare or hard to catch, rays (especially Manta rays) are some of the most common bycatch in fishing nets. They tend to hang around huge schools of fish, the same schools that trawlers go for in subtropical and tropical climates.

Literally like 3 places have ever done that, you are talking out your ass. I doubt you've ever had a job, let alone one in the restaurant supply industry. Anyone that has had scallops before would be able to tell
