Great meat for tacos
Issue is most taqueros have a shit hand at making it

Finally found a place locally that makes it just how I love it, they are now my go to spot!

Since the north of mexico is the main region for carne asada, they tend to use different cuts (NY strip, rib eye, skirt and even tenderloin but rare), as opposed to just cheap cuts

No it doesn't

Al pastor = shepherd style. There is another dish called Cabrito al pastor, which is cooked on a spit. Once again, the so called "Mexican" experts on /ck/ showing their lack of knowledge

> too tough to eat in a corn or wheat tortilla My God son, don't you know you u are defying every thing

Its probably the most tender meat I ate in a taco. Its a common ritual in that region of Mexico

>> No.6391930

>>6391450
Yes, al pastor is literally translated to "Shepherd style". However, normally when you see tacos al pastor on a mexican menu they're made with pork, so al pastor is generally understood to be pork in the vast majority of cases.

Stop trying to correct people on being "mexican experts" when you don't even know what you're talking about to begin with.

>However, normally when you see tacos al pastor on a mexican menu they're made with pork, so al pastor is generally understood to be pork in the vast majority of cases.

I disagree. Yes, it literally means "shepherd style" but the word specifically refers to the method of cooking, not the identity of the meat used. I think a better translation would be "roasted on a spit". Sure pork is a common meat for this but it's not the only one.

>> No.6391991

Its the style of cooking in the end. Just like "pibil" which translate to underground cooking. I can understand if people say they like al pastor type tacos , but to say its a meat is like saying grilled is my favorite meat

I'm not any of the various people you're arguing with, but in the parts of Mexico I grew up (Tijuana and Ensenada), pork meat cooked on a spit is called "adobada." I had actually never heard the term "al pastor" until I moved to Southern California.

>> No.6393278

>>6393264
Also, if the dude making those adobada/al pastor tacos doesn't dip the tortilla in the pork drippings before warming it up, then he's doing it objectively wrong.

>> No.6393410

>>6393264
Adobada is the right term if you take the spit roast out of the occasion but it sort of makes sense since the meat is basically an adobo but cooked in a different manner.

Ask for a taco de al pastor and expect chivo if you like, just don't be disappointed when you get pork because that is what you would actually be asking for.

Calling spit cooking al pastor is rather silly, just put a fish, rabbit, iguana, armadillo or chicken on a spit seasoned with salt and calling it al pastor type taco is entirely wrong over sand over again like it or not.

The replies to eating a cut of meat besides chuck in taco is wrong just confirms that Americans have it bad when it comes to Mexican food. I wouldn't say bad, just limited. While you won't see a NY steak taco as often as a Sirloin in the area, it isn't rare or uncommon.
