I'm going to New York City and Los Angeles this summer (Denmark here), and i was wonder what i should eat. What are some essentials must eat?

My current list: Burger, Poutine, NY style pizza, Chicken waffle, lobster roll, American breakfast, donuts, hotdogs, soul food, BBQ, Cheesecake, Apple pie and Mac n Cheese.

Are you guys seriously having this argument? Beef ships extremely well, it doesn't matter where you live, because you can get good beef almost anywhere. It's one thing if you require hand-massaged kobe beef turds from Japan, or auroch tongue or whatever, maybe you need to be in NYC for that, but regular run of the mill grain fed, grass fed, grain fed/grass finished whatever you want prime beef, aged or not, from your run of the mill commercial American breeds, you can get anywhere. Yeah when I visited NYC almost all the pizza I had was Neapolitan style or close to it. There's a shit load of great pizza places in that city but if you go to one of the famous ones expect to wait a long ass time for a pie.

NYC being as massive as it is you can really good quality food of every variety and type. Their delis are world class, great place for pastrami and a reuban. I'd recommend trying a good cheesesteak somewhere too.

LA has great Mexican and asian influenced food. And I know the draw to goto 1 of the hyped up burger chains like In-N-Out or 5 Guys is there, but really all the best burgers tend to come from a restaurant. Steak restaurants usually do the best burgers in my experience but I've been to some hole in the wall joints that make amazing burgers too.

And for the 'hurr durr TX #1' posts you can really get solid BBQ in just about every major city in the US. You really think 1 of the biggest cities in the world NYC and LA would have 0 good BBQ.

I'd really recommend checking out 1 of those Brazilian steakhouses in LA like Fogo de Chao where they just walk around with various cuts of meat and cut you off a chunk and it's all you can eat.
