Hey /ck/.
I want to get into sardines, so I bought these two things. The whole lower trophic level fish thing is interesting to me.

Problem is, I'm scared. Can anyone give some personal experience in how to eat these? I don't trust the first things that appear on Google. Some of you guys have real knowledge.

pic related; i bought this

>not buying millionaires brand sardines in olive oil

basically i just put them on a carr's water wafer and eat them

not much to it, maybe pepper or salt if you want, i dont tho. sometimes just straight out of the can

>> No.6368183

You open the cans and eat them.

I'm not sure what you're asking.

also i just noticed the one box says "skinless boneless"

you want the skin, its tasty!

I eat the whole thing. Some people dislike the bones (they are soft due to being canned but can have an off-putting texture).

Try with crackers (maybe Ritz? I use plain saltines) and a dash of hot sauce.

Sardines are good on plain pizza, way better than achovies IMO. One of those cans is good for three or four slices.

its cool, not everyone knows.

better to ask than to eat them wrong.

also you CAN do other things with them :
http://www.chow.com/food-news/47126/7-things-to-do-with-canned-sardines/

but they never last that long in my house, i eat a few cans a week

also be advised that they will make you shit if your not used to a lot of oil in your diet

You should almost never pick boneless anything when there are other options. This is especially true with sardines.

okay OP I've been eating sardines at least weekly for the last 5 years. Sure, you can eat them straight out of the can, but if you want more flavor, here are a few recipes i enjoy.

1. Put contents of can into a bowl.
2. add a tea spoon of mustard
3. dash of red wine vinegar, (if you like spicy you can replace with tobacco, or both it you like vinegar).
4. salt and pepper to taste.
5. Mash up and put on toast.

>>6368313

1. Drain can, but sardines aside.
2. Make toast, spread sour creme.
3. Put sardines on top.
4. Sprinkle dill on the top.
5. Serve with dill pickle

I like pouring out the oil and dumping them into a small pan. I then add garlic, salt, and a bit of pepper. Heat till everything is warm and put on toast/crackers.

I've also made a fisherman's breakfast before, which is sardines heated in the oven in a small baking dish and then cracking an egg over it and putting it back in till the egg is cooked.

What are some good brands of sardines?

My parents bought me some chicken of the sea ones and they tasted like shit, were way too firm, and I'm pretty sure I ate some sardine feces

I've been told by a doctor to eat more sardines. He said to go for European/Canadian brands rather than the cheaper Asian ones to get the health benefits.

King Oscar's sardines are pretty good. The first time I had sardines, the can had huge sardines with big crunchy backbones. I tried to eat them on a sandwich on the way to work and almost puked in my car. King Oscar's sardines are pretty tiny and you don't really notice the backbones.

The only problem is that they can be pricey, about $2.50 a can, though I guess its not so bad.

My dad got me into Sardines, here was his ideal:
>Use the big fat sardines canned in tomato sauce
>Chop onion and green bell pepper
>put into pan, saute
>Open sardines into pan along with sauce
>Heat until the fishes will take the skin right off the roof of your mouth
>serve over rice

I'm going to try sardines and crackers based on these threads.

Also, I live in France so I can't give you an opinion on which brand of sardines to choose. Just test several brands, and test also with skin and bones, I found that to be much more tasty than without them. You may also want to compare the different oils (olive, sunflower, etc...) and additions (like pepper) once you'll have found your brand.

The bones and skin can make them a little bitter. But not a lot. It is not like eating the head of an oily fish which can be on the bitter side. But I eat them with saltines and the ones that come in tomato sauce I chop white or yellow onion and eat it raw out of the can.

Who the fuck cares what you buy in the supermarket. The only times I've gotten stares is when I buy beer in the morning, get drunk, and then go back to buy more and somehow end up with the same clerk.

Well, the original question was why did OP's photo have the unnecessary inclusion of a video game.

The FE reply also had an unnecessary off-topic inclusion of a video game. What the game is is irrelevant.
