Weird fruit thread? Weird fruit thread.

I will start off of course: Salak. Had these in Bali, looked like testicles and upon opening it looked like garlic..surprisingly good, I wish I could find them where I usually live.

>> No.6343511

Haven't had them, would love to try them.

One that isn't that weird or uncommon but that many people haven't tried is rambutan. If you have an asian market near you go pick some of those motherfuckers up.

dunno if they are in a same genus or w/e, texture is wildly different though, especially salak to lychee. salak is kind of dry and thread-like, lychee is juicy and similar to rambutan in my opinion.

You kind of just have to eat around it. Halfway through a bag of those, you get pretty skilled at not biting too deep. There's also the canned variety. They're not too bad, but lack the tang of the fresh fruit.

These are called passion fruits in the U.S. They're pretty cool. I remember the first time I ate one. Even though it had really dry skin that felt like plastic, when I cut through it, it exploded like an egg. Hell, the inside looked like egg yolk just to top it off.
