Probably about 12 when I realized curly parsley was a lame garnish, and flat leaf was a good finishing herb. I was hanging out at a friend's house, and went into the kitchen to get a drink. His mother was Italian, and a good cook. I saw her chopping up this green shit and asked what it was. When she said parsley I told her it wasn't, because it didn't look like what I knew as parsley. She told me there were two kinds, the garnish and the Italian kind. The Italian kind was the good stuff. (She was Italian, kinda hot and a good cook, so I believed her).

Years later when I started learning to cook I remembered it, and realized she was right.

Oh yeah. I fantasized about her for years. And the food she cooked.

My parents tried to dissuade me from eating it by telling me if I did eat it I would turn into a 100 foot giant. Naturally I ate it, discovered how disgusting it was, promptly spat it back out and bam lesson learned.

Pretty young, maybe 6 or 7 yrs old when I'd get it on my plate at restaurants. I thought to myself, "what's this doing on my plate if I'm not supposed to eat it." So ate it and blech, it was pig ass disgusting. In small amounts though it can be ok on mashed or baked potatoes.

Happiness on a plate. Thanks, parsley.

I like to stuff pig's hearts with it and braise them in a cast iron pot.
Grew up eating it and never had reason to stop.
