I do this all the time. There's a cattle farm literally 50 feet down my driveway. I buy a quarter of a cow every 6 months.

And there's plenty of farm stands down all the roads around my house. I know some of the farmers at the ones I frequent most often. Usually it's just retired folk and old farmers that grow produce in their backyard. And there's a guy on my way to work who I buy farm fresh eggs from for $2.00 a dozen
