Personally I'm against the death penalty. Not because I think it's cruel or that I don't feel it's sometimes justified, but because it ends up costing more with all the bullshit, and spending the rest of ones life in prison is probably harsher anyway.

Shooting deaths aren't done anymore because of several reasons.

If the officer who actually has the real bullet doesn't hit the guys heart, he could live and suffer.

It can be pretty hard on the officers to actually line up and shoot a man, even if only one of them has a real bullet and they fire at the same time so none of them know which one actually killed the guy.

Other methods are much cleaner and have a higher chance of working without any complications.

I think that one rational way to do it would be to put a limit of maybe $10 for the meal.

On the other hand, I have seen videos of prisoners last meals (actually the afternoon before) with their family there eating with them so $10 wouldn't have covered much. I don't know if that is at all common, though.

That said, if it were up to me they would do away with last meals entirely. Feed them the prison food of the day. Nothing more. Nothing less. After all, they didn't get there by being little angels.

I always disliked chick peas, too many cold salads or dips with enough garlic to curl your hair.. Dry and mealy. like big lima beans, Falafell is great.
