Looking to purchase my first actual, legitimate chef's knife. What did y'all use when you started out with knives? Any recommendations?

lol I remember that thread

Knives are now officially gay, you should instead sit on the sofa watching helmeted spandex man grope each other on the television whilst a naked lady that you definitely consider attractive despite your overwhelming fixation on the spandex men makes you a sammich in the other room. In this way you can prove to your peers that you are acceptably straight.

Save your money. Pic related is cheap and will do 90% of what you need a knife to do.

When I first got into knives, I used a knife. I still use a knife. It is the same knife. I have been using this knife for nearly twenty years. I bought it when I was a tween so that I could better cut veg because my mum's knife handle was too small for my hands and the knife itself felt too light and was uncomfortable to use. I only started sharpening and maintaining it about five years ago.

This is a dumb thread.

You mean like brand or something? If that's what you mean, I'm not sure. I got it at Migros.

Yeah, I didn't know what kind of brand/make it was. I'm really just looking for something that won't go to shit after a bit of usage.

Hey /ck/
I'm interested in becoming a professional knife sharpener.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any university courses in knife sharpening.
If anyone here sharpens knives, what's the industry like?
How long did it take you to become a master sharpener?
Are there some must read text books I should get before going to uni?
