I don't know why there isn't any more love for German food. There's always threads for Japanese food (which I can't stomach, makes me stomach sick) and Mexican food (only had bastardized versions so I can't really speak on it), but German food is a rare sight, and it's a shame because it is absofuckinglutely delicious.

Then again, I like British food so maybe I'm just broken

Of course, the tragedy when a backwards place leaps forward is that, inevitably, some are left behind. But you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs, as the Joker said in Batman Part 1.

Perhaps the World Bank or the IMF can arrange for some development aid for your at-risk demographic.

Is this "real germans only eat pretzels and exclusively drink beer" thing kind of like the "real americans only eat HFCS pink slime" thing?

I know a few IRL germans, one drinks mostly wine, one seems to prefer liquor, and one barely drinks.

I suspect poors in germany (as poors everywhere) are trying to write off the culture of an entire nation due to their primitive, limited palates.

Thank you for the dump of all the German food pics, anon. I for one didn't know anything about German food aside from sausage, bread, and schnitzel so this is all very interesting.

I really want to try some now. Time to look for a German restaurant somewhere near me.

I've been through Germany six or seven times, and have German American roots. (I grew up with lamb stew with dumplings, roast pork with sauerkraut, pickled herring and lots of other German style foods at home).

I fucking love German food, but would get bored if I had to eat it every day. My taste leans more toward Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Asian food, because I love bright, bold flavors and lots of vegetable matter in my meals.

That said I feel lucky to live in a city where I have access to many German restaurants, ranging from sausage and beer joints to high end restaurants. Because while I do not eat German food very often I enjoy the fuck out of it when I do. Pic related, last meal I had at a German restaurant.

Pseudoswiss here (mum's a Swissizen, but I'm not).
Yeah?
I think Swiss home cooking is pretty meh except for hörnlisalat (Swiss macaroni salad), cervelatsalat (sausage salad), rösti (Swiss potato pancakes) and baked müesli (Swiss granola). We do a decent job of co-opting other cultures' cuisines, though. Better than most other countries tend to, anyway.
Switzerland makes good fermented foods, though. Graubünden makes the best salted meats ever. Italy ain't got shit on Rumantsch prosciutto or Bündnerfleisch (basically, beef prosciutto). Samichlaus and Urbock 23° were fantastic when they were still Swiss beers, but now they're made in Austria because Austrians are basically the Mexicans of Switzerland (cheap labour, but then everything is cheap compared to Swiss prices). And then there're Swiss chocolates and cheeses.

Still, the homecooking is meh.
