explain how a pizza is different from a sandwich then

>> No.6184486

>>6184473

Well, let's see. A pizza is baked in such a way that the dough rises at the same time the toppings are cooked and the cheese is melted. On the other hand, a sandwich is made with bread that was baked separately, then topped with something.

Also, most sandwiches are not cooked, and they usually have two or more pieces of bread (e.g. a top and a bottom piece). Of course there are exceptions to this (like the various Danish open face sandwiches with silly names) but I'd say that a "normal sandwich" would be two pieces of bread with some kind of filling in between (usually deli meats of some kind, plus sliced veggies, cheese is also typical), and it would not be cooked after assembly.

I would say that the Japanese generally don't have the concept of open faced sandwiches unless it's ingredients on thickly sliced bread baked in a toaster oven, hence 'toast'. Using ingredients that are often used in pizza and adding cheese on top makes it 'pizza toast'. It's not pizza, and it's not toast as we know it, but it's not just a normal sandwich either.

Besides, it's a bastardisation of Italian and American food so let them have a bastardised name too and be done with it.

Agreed. Pizza toast seems like a reasonable name for it.

I have a serious issue with the term "open faced sandwich" as it is completely idiotic.
>One cannot "sandwich" anything between a single piece of bread. Folding the bread over doesn't count as then it is no longer "open".

>>One cannot "sandwich" anything between a single piece of bread

Clearly. That's the whole point of the term open-faced sandwich. It describes a sandwich-like item (bread and toppings) but makes the clear distinction that it's not closed like a proper sandwich is.

top kek.
One of those places opened up a few years ago in town. Had the balls to move in right next door to a well known chinese restaurant downtown.
Needless to say it went out of biz in less than a year. Never even got to try the place. Probably shitty anyway.
