A wizard has given you one wish from the following choices:
1. Unlimited stock of ingredients of the highest quality that are always available at peak freshness.

2. A Perfect kitchen stocked with every instrument you could ask for with cookware/knives that prep/heat so accurately and evenly it defies physics and won't wear after use. Everything and all of the dishes used are also instantly self-cleaned.

3. Absolutely perfect recipe knowledge and cooking technique.

What do you choose /ck/? Food, gear, or skill?

I work grill in a fine dining restaurant so I mostly have 3, so probably 1 although the self cleaning dishes for home cooking is alluring. Assuming I wouldn't have to be cutting shit with like a fucking ruler or something and I just didn't have top of the line cookware.

what would be the point of cooking it if i could just cook anything easily?

The food, for fuck's sake. If I'm not spending money on food indefinitely, I can at least save up for shit like pots and pans that'll last me and cooking lessons if I really need them.

#1 for certain, no doubt about it.
My normal range/oven is mediocre, but I have a really nice grill, wood-fired brick oven, 50k and 200k btu propane burners (outdoor), and a passable set of pots/pans/knives/etc.

I am by no means a star-quality chef but I can hold my own in the kitchen; I've worked in commercial kitchens, I've got years of experience cooking for friends/family/housemates. Though the fancy kitchen is tempting, ingredients are certainly my weakest link. I'd rather have a mediocre kitchen and fantastic ingredients than the opposite.

>> No.6183536

2 sounds really nice. Never clean everything, all the tools you could ever need at your fingertips. 1 and 3 would also be nice but I'd pick 2.

1. Food
Without any doubt or hesitation. I already have a jammed packed kitchen full of any equipment I truly need, really. It may not be of the highest quality, but I've learn to work well with it all. If I can reduce my food costs in any way without sacrifice, that would be a happy miracle. And, as far as perfect technique, well, half the fun of cooking is trying out new things, so I wouldn't want that.

With that knowledge I could become a chef and get paid the big bucks. Then I could afford all of the other stuff.

#2 OP.

The self-cleaning bit sealed the deal. I am also assuming its coming with enough counter space I could sleep on it with another man/woman.

Being able to make anything work in whatever situation is an amazing skill many devote their lives to. Given that I've already devoted my life to something similar in another field having that as well would be like having two lifetime's worth of knowledge in one.

Tough to beat.

I would take the food. Not having to spend money on food ever again would be really nice. I can already cook fairly well, so I would at least be able to eat quality food even if it wasn't cooked perfectly every time. Plus I would get better at cooking over time too.

We probably spend around $400 on food every month (mostly eating out to do laziness or lack of ingredients) so having an extra $400 would really come in handy.

Knowledge is power. I wouldn't even bother using it to get a job in a kitchen. I'd write a book, shoot a documentary, and go on tour. People would give me food and equipment.

Brewing is cooking, right? If you could borrow some money and spend a few afternoons making the perfect batch of beer (and letting it ferment of course), then you could share it with investors and start a brewery.

Your recipes would have you set for life.

I'm eager for 1, especially if I could sell them and make money, but I would probably convince myself to go with 3.

Knowledge is power, and will litterally rip a hole through the fabric of reality and poes law as you avoid pitfalls so you don't even need to do things. You can slap a golden dish of delight using cheap ingredients that no one would think of, you are litterally surfing on perfecting of a trade billions have attempted to master.

At bare minimum i could set myself up as a mini heston blumenthal, catering to a crowd based on theme and wonderful cooking that could springboard me into moderate success.

The first one, for sure.

You can buy a perfect kitchen with cash, and you can gain knowledge by reading and perfect technique by practicing; the unlimited high quality ingredients is magical. It's near impossible to get that without a genie just because of your location.

>> No.6184041

One. The sheer amount of versatility would be worth it alone. Want to make a stew you read the recipe for five minutes ago? Open up the fridge and pantry, all the shit for it's already there. Have an idea on how to make it even better? Cool, you have those extra ingredients too and they're the best quality you could possibly get.
That's just fucking top tier.

1. I'll never have to wait for the right season and find the right store for, particularly, ripe fruit. The best possible seafood, and easy access to other regional ingredients.
