Yeah, I was never sure if that was a troll or not. Seemed like maybe British humor (because it's dry, get it?) or poor people food (like I've had a "hand sandwich" which is a slice of cheap bologna in your hand). Guess it's probably like that potato sandwich troll.

The India one got deleted because the OP image was a picture of shit. It seems that the janitor didn't feel like a toast sandwich was hard enough trolling to warrant deletion of this thread.

Couldn't get a good photo of it because it was really dark in the pub that served it, but this is a mince pie, cheddar mash, gravy, and the little cup is full of Pease Pudding.

Pease Pudding is delicious, and mostly local to the North East of England. It might look a bit like sick, but it's actually lentils that have been soaked for a day, then boiled in ham stock. It makes for a brilliant sandwich spread, or just to eat on its own.

lolwut? British clothes are the shit. It's a political thing, not a British thing. Specifically, a political thing of the present day. Look at politicians who made their name back in the day, they have no problem wearing the Rolex they bought for a few hundred bucks back in the 60s. But now it's impossible to get elected if you give off even the slightest hint of being slightly well off. lol Brits really do like to rewrite history don't they? Curry is in no way, shape or form a British invention. You can credit the Portugese for introducing chillis and tomatoes to the cuisine but before that the tartness in Indian food came from tamarind and the heat from black pepper. All the other ingredients are Indian in origin. The dishes were just made creamier and milder to suit British palates.

Mexican food in America is a different case since they share a border and the cuisine traveled organically. Indian food in Britain is still made by Indian immigrants or in some cases Bangladeshi immigrants. British cuisine hasn't added anything to curry, all its done is change the proportions to suit their taste.

I'm not ignoring that. Almost all industrialization in India is due to the British. Things like tea, biscuits, baker's bread were all introduced by the Brits. But the core of the food remained unaltered and was only tweaked to suit specific tastes. The food has constantly evolved, both in India and UK but culturally the reigns have always been in Indian hands.

>mid-Victorian

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victorian_era

Infact according to the article the toast sandwich was created in the middle of the Victorian era.

The midpoint for the victorian era is 1869.

Independence from the UK was declared in 1776.

From these dates we can conclude that the inception of the toast sandwich is 36 years closer to Americas Declaration of Independence than from the midpoint of the current year.

Would an indian eat chicken tikka masala?

If not then Indians would not claim this dish as their own and your argument is too wide sweeping to be considered true.

This is a thread for British cuisine, which is great but no one just eats British cuisine. I'll regularly have some British, Italian (not American-Italian), French, Portuguese, Mexican, East-Asian, etc.

The good thing about the modern world is we're not limited to just one cultural thing and can eat whatever we want.

Unsure, but it sounds delicious. I make a similar dish with Savoy cabbage, onion, and bacon all fried, then add mashed potatoes with cheese on top. I have to use several pans as my daughter is a vegetarian. I usually fry the veg in the bacon fat. Your recipe sounds like what we bongs call "bubble and squeak", similar to what I mentioned above.

Theres a difference between Gordon Ramseys fish fingers + chip butty and that pic.

Yours: cheap white bread, margerine/vegetable spread with frozen cod fish fingers and a smidgen of ketchup

Ramseys: Pollock rolled in a dill breadcrumb with a crusty bread and sweet potato butty

pic related - it's Ramseys
