Hot dogs, which brand do you prefer? How do you cook them. How do you top them?

I gotta say, I have eaten a lot of hot dogs, but I grew up eating Kahns, and I prefer them.

I basically just cook mine in the toaster oven, for 5-10 minutes on each side. Typically I top them with sweet pickle relish, but mustard and sauerkraut is also a nice topping.

Best hot dogs are a mix of beef and pork. Somewhere in the 80/20 range.

I'm not a fan of poultry in hot dogs.

As for toppings, the only legit hot dog is mustard, onion and chili sauce (and no, chili sauce is not chili)

If any of those aren't availible, I'll put whatever is around on them, but that's the best.

I've always wanted to try one of those wierd looking chicago dogs, where they put 5 pounds of vegetables and condiments on them for some reason.

Are they trying to hide the shitty taste of the hot dog itself? Is this just a cultural thing?
Why do they have such a taboo about ketchup when they dress the hotdog so heavily it looks like a fucking salad?
So many questions.

Fuck hotdogs. Just have some polish sausage with sauerkraut, hot peppers, and grainy mustard.

I dont have any good local deli near the shitheap where I live, unfortunately. Out of the big brands, Nathan's is the only one that's passable to me.

From Michigan, prefer Kowalski, Koegel, and Dearborn. In that order.

Usually spicy brown, mustard, onion, and a pickle. Favorite being coneys from downtown Detroit

Only the shelf stable ones come in jars. Most are vacuum packed in the fridge section.
